Al Franken was the keynote speaker – the headliner on Saturday night at Netroots Nation. “Net neutrality is the First Amendment issue of our time,” he told the crowd.
We just received this memo:

Subject: Air America Operations
It is with the greatest regret, on behalf of our Board, that we must announce that Air America Media is ceasing its live programming operations as of this afternoon, and that the Company will file soon under Chapter 7 of the Bankruptcy Code to carry out an orderly winding-down of the business.
The very difficult economic environment has had a significant impact on Air America’s business. This past year has seen a “perfect storm” in the media industry generally.
National and local advertising revenues have fallen drastically, causing many media companies nationwide to fold or seek bankruptcy protection. From large to small, recent bankruptcies like Citadel Broadcasting and closures like that of the industry’s long-time trade publication Radio and Records have signaled that these are very difficult and rapidly changing times.
Geez, Norm Coleman, it’s nearly July. How much foot-dragging were you planning on doing?
The Minnesota Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered that Democrat Al Franken be certified as the winner of the state’s long-running Senate race.
The high court rejected a legal challenge from Republican Norm Coleman, whose options for regaining the Senate seat are dwindling.
Justices said Franken is entitled to the election certificate he needs to assume office. With Franken and the usual backing of two independents, Democrats will have a big enough majority to overcome Republican filibusters.

Don’t ask how we ended up with these people. Let’s just say security isn’t that tight.
First in the photo above is Al Franken. Yes, the soon-to-be Senator-Elect Al Franken.
We saw one woman’s boa catch on fire – so that’s the sign of a real party. We accosted Congressman Barney Frank who was a dismissive to us. Which from what we’ve heard is only surprising if one is from Los Angeles…ahem.
This one we really like because it reminds us how much has changed in late night television. Now it’s all promo tours after promo tours. Franken and his then partner Tom Davis, were going to be working at Caroline’s that week. They were just funny guys being promoted by David Letterman.
Al Franken took his “Saturday Night Live” gig to the next level when he was officially was announced the winner in the Senate race in Minnesota.
But the Repubs are pulling out the stops. Dick Morris, who believe it or not was an extreme Democrat when he worked for Pres. Clinton, has taken arms against the Franken sea of troubles. (See more below:)
Morris wants him dead. Dead.
Just politics, we hope.
Well, it’s about time a comedian could parlay those skills to gainful employment – or at least a decent health care plan. Yay dental!
