Congresswoman Hilda L. Solis has learned what freelance writers know instinctively: If you want to meet celebs, write about them.
In Solis’ case, the star of choice is America Ferrera. And the medium, the press release.
Solis yapped about Ugly Betty on the House floor: “Madame Speaker, I rise today to congratulate America Ferrera for winning the Golden Globe for best actress in a comedy for her work in the ABC show “Ugly Betty.” Then she met with Ferrera this week to present her with a plaque or something. True Ugly Betty stars Latino actors, but so does Mind of Mencia.
We smell a star-struck plug for one woman’s favorite TV show. Too bad she didn’t feel as strongly about Studio 60.
Anyway, here it is:
Richard Rushfield recounts his Golden Globe experience in Kudos-crasher, for the LA Times. Kudos crasher sounds like he smashes cookies, but whatever. He’s the funniest writer in the paper. He overhears Donald Trump bragging about his star to Brian Glazer and P. Diddy telling Mary Lynn Rasjkub from 24 that she’s “one hundred percent true gangster”. FBLA thinks he said gangsta, but the copy desk must have intervened. And Rushfield gets the best line about the Golden Globes ever:
When asked about her show coming up empty tonight, Weeds creator Jenji Kohan tells me, “If I cared about the opinions of 90 foreign strangers, I’d be a hooker outside the U.N.”
Eonline’s Kristin Veitch live-blogged and misses nothing. She caught Tim Gunn in an unguarded moment:
He gushed over America Ferrera, calling her purple gown “a gem in a jewel tone,” then smiled pleasantries to Chloe Sevigny’s classy black and white gown, but his face fell into brief moment of disgust as she twirled around and showed her dominatrix shoes.
She should pod-cast her commentary for the Oscars, so we can watch and listen with her in our ear, like a great funny, bitchy girl-friend.
