Reporter Who Broke Tony Scott Suicide Joins Orange County Register
The circumstances that led Hollywood director Tony Scott to jump off the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro last summer remain largely unknown. It was a bittersweet scoop for The Daily Breeze’s Art Marroquin (pictured), who has rejoined the Orange County Register to cover Anaheim.
During his senior year as a Communications and Journalism major at Cal State Fullerton (1997-98), Marroquin worked at the Register as a news assistant. In addition to The Daily Breeze, he has also written for City News Service, the Press-Enterprise, the Oregonian, the LA Times and the Los Angeles Newspaper Group (LANG). From this week’s announcement:
“I’m excited about being a part of a respected, well-known newspaper that is essentially going through a renaissance,” Marroquin said. “I’m looking forward to working with a strong, dynamic group of reporters and editors who are serious about local journalism and appear to genuinely care the communities they cover.”

This is not the kind of scoop that The Daily Breeze or any other local SoCal newspaper wishes for.
