Fan Tweet Morphs Into $69,000 Kevin Smith Cartoon Feature

How cool is this? A few years ago, Toronto-based animator Steve Stark tweeted out to Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes a cartoon he put together based on a Jay & Silent Bob SModcast. It led to a relationship that now has the Canuck first-time directing the pair’s cartoon feature.

Jay & Silent Bob’s Super Groovy Cartoon Movie will start rolling out this spring by means of a Red State USA-style cross-country road show, with the two leads in tow for lively post-show podcast Q&A. From today’s announcement:

“This is what can happen when you put the plug in the jug, kids,” said Mewes. “As an actor, it was awesome to play Jay again. But as a producer, I sweated every nickel because I wanted to keep the budget low… And dirty.”

Cross-Country Oscar Road Trip Gets Rolling in NYC

The Academy keeps a bunch of unmarked Oscars on hand for various promotional purposes. One of those is officially on its way from New York to LA today as part of a three-week cross-country promotional “Oscar Road Trip.”

The statuette’s traveling companions are comedians Ben Gleib and Angie Greenup, who are both tweeting about their progress (alongside official account @OscarRoadTrip) as they also give away red carpet bleacher tickets for the big night February 24 in Hollywood. There are various blanks on the itinerary, so as to allow fans via the road trip website and Facebook to multiple-choice vote for additional meet-and-greet destinations.

NBC’s scheduling a press conference for the new reality series The Real Wedding Crashers, and just to get the hi-jinks rolling, sent out a beaut of a memo:

An in person PRESS CONFERENCE has been scheduled for Friday, March 16 Pacific time from 11 a.m. -12 p.m. for our new unscripted series”The REAL Wedding Crashers” which will premiere in April. A simultaneous conference call has been scheduled so that out of town press may also may have the opportunity to partipate. Questions will be taken from in person journalists as well as from press on the phone. Please do not ask Ashton Kutcher any “personal” questions.
