Animal Radio to Repeat Davy Jones’ Final Interview

When Davy Jones passed away on February 29, 2012, the Morro Bay, CA crew that puts together the wildly popular weekly show Animal Radio were faced with a dilemma. They had banked what turned out to be the actor and former Monkees lead singer’s last interview. The question suddenly became: Should the interview be aired?

The issue was put to a vote on the show’s Facebook page and buoyed by a resounding yes from fans, the Jones conversation was shared in April. For those who missed it, the entertaining interview with hosts Hal Abrams and Judy Francis will be repeated on the New Year’s Eve weekend edition of Animal Radio. From that telephone chat:

“I played Epcot Center’s Flower Power festival on Mother’s Day last year and I will again this year… I gave out T-shirts that say, ‘Davy knows your mother.’”

“It’s all changed of course. I went to see Peter Noone the night before at Epcot. They’re all getting old, these guys. I mean he sings, “Mrs. Brown, You’ve Got a Lovely Walker.” And then Tony Orlando was there and he was singing, you know, “Knock Three Times on the Ceiling If You Hear Me Fall.”

Betty White, 90, Joins Twitter

I think Twitter has finally jumped the shark.

The 90-year-old Betty White has joined the social networking service, likely making her one of the oldest users on Twitter in the process.

The Hot in Cleveland star is more popular than ever, racking up 40,000 Twitter followers in only five hours.

LA Zoo Wrangles Slash, Betty White

Hollywood is full of odd couples. Still, TMZ camera-totters would be hard pressed to find a visual grab as striking as the side-by-side sight of Slash and Betty White.

Calm down; they’re only an item for LA Zoo promotional purposes. Out of the five new ads touting the attraction’s upcoming reptile and amphibian shrine The Lair opening in March, this is FishbowlLA’s favorite (great comeback, frogs!):

Charlie Sheen Gets a Comic Book

There’s not much left to laugh at when it comes to Charlie Sheen. Per tonight’s latest “Sheen’s Korner” Internet broadcast, the actor is still – albeit in a more scripted, Teleprompter form – desperately trying to channel the spirit of Hunter S. Thompson.

In lieu of accompanying illustrations from gonzo artist Ralph Steadman, Sheen fans can instead look forward to an upcoming graphic novel from Bluewater Productions. Other media stars given this treatment by the Vancouver, WA company include the much saner quartet of Oprah, Ellen DeGeneres, Barbara Walters, and Meredith Vieira, for the title Female Force: Women in Media.

National Geographic Probes Area 51

The Betty White love fest, which continued during a TV Land opening day session Wednesday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, is all well and good. But what we really want to know is: are there dead aliens in Nevada?

National Geographic producer Peter Yost offered tantalizing hints of a potential new answer to this question during a separate TCA session promoting his spring documentary Area 51 Declassified. Via Entertainment Weekly:

The program will include first-ever on-camera interviews from former Area 51 employees, exclusive video footage from inside the facility (which, you’ll recall, doesn’t even officially exist), as well as previously unseen documents and photos.

Lisa Lampanelli To Host The Oscars of Porn

The AVN Media Network announced this week that the 2011 AVN Awards show will be hosted by “The Queen of Mean,” insult comic Lisa Lampanelli. The AVN Awards, often referred to as the “Oscars of porn,” are the most prestigious in L.A.’s other multi-billion dollar film industry. Said Lampanelli of her hosting gig:

It’s so exciting to be named as host of the AVN Awards. Thank God Betty White had a scheduling conflict! No, seriously, this is a dream come true. I always wanted to host a show in a room full of pussies, boobs and giant dicks, but they wouldn’t let me host the MTV Video Music Awards! I’m also excited because I’ll finally have an excuse to wear those crotchless panties I’ve been saving for a special occasion.

The AVN awards will be held in Las Vegas on January 8, and your FBLA editors sure would like to be there.

Betty White Is the AP’s Entertainer of the Year

Thanks in large part to a successful Internet campaign to get her Saturday Night Live, Betty White has been named the Associated Press‘s “Entertainer of the Year.” Kind of a surprise, but not really. White was all over the place this year.

102 ballots were sent out to the Associated Press‘s various entertainment affiliates to determine the winner. The vote was apparently close. White beat the cast of Glee by only two votes.

“It’s ridiculous,” White told the AP from her Los Angeles home. “They haven’t caught on to me, and I hope they never do.”

Previous winners include Tina FeyStephen Colbert and…Taylor Swift? Alrighty then.

Cookie Monster Campaigns to Host ‘SNL’

Sesame Street resident Cookie Monster is so eager to host “Saturday Night Live” that he’s created an audition video to show his chops. From an opening monologue to parodies of MacGruber and Lady Gaga, the Monster makes his case. Plus, muppets are so under-represented on late night television! Help Cookie Monster pull a Betty White and join the Facebook campaign.

rue_mcclanahan_1.jpgGolden Girl Rue McClanahan has passed from a major stroke.

    From SFGate.com:

Rue McClanahan, the Emmy-winning actress who brought the sexually liberated Southern belle Blanche Devereaux to life on the hit TV series “The Golden Girls,” has died. She was 76.

Her manager Barbara Lawrence said McClanahan died Thursday at 1 a.m. of a stroke.

88-year-old Betty White is the only surviving member of the four women who starred in “Golden Girls.” Estelle Getty died in 2008. Bea Arthur died from cancer last year.

    Rest in peace.
