Lynne Segall Heads Back to The Hollywood Reporter

After a stint at the LA Times and a year trying to help monetize the efforts of Nikki Finke, Bonnie Fuller, Michael Ausiello, and co., Lynne Segall has accepted a plum job with her old employer The Hollywood Reporter. She is now the senior vice president and publisher of Janice Min‘s chart-topping website and glossy weekly mag.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to work with the newly, re-invigorated THR,” Segall states via this morning’s announcement. “Their website has seen unprecedented growth as they rapidly expand their consumer audience base-which is the holy grail for studio and network marketers. I look forward to re-joining The Hollywood Reporter to help deliver greater value for readers and advertisers in one of the largest and most influential markets in the country.”

Movieline Now Has Two Chief Film Critics

Can a movie website have two “chief film critics?” Apparently so.

Just eight months after former Salon.com contributor Stephanie Zacharek was announced as chief film critic at Movieline.com, the website is proudly sharing the news today of Elvis Mitchell‘s appointment as… chief film critic. Mitchell is of course the former New York Times staffer who was briefly lined up for Roger Ebert‘s relaunch of At the Movies and currently hosts weekly chat program “The Treatment” on KCRW.

“Movieline.com represents the future of film journalism and I love what they have been doing,” says Mitchell. “Any place smart enough to bring Stephanie Zacharek to the party is definitely a site I want to be a part of.”

Gawker Media Revenues/Pageviews Up, Bitter/Sweet

gawker22.jpgFelix Salmon at Reuters reports:

Nick Denton says that Gawker Media’s revenues were 45% higher in the first two quarters of 2009 than they were in the same period last year; he also tells me that pageviews are up 40% June-on-June. Judging by his chart, profits (revenues less expenses) hit an all-time high this quarter, which explains why he’s started hiring again. (He passed, however, on hiring Bonnie Fuller.)

Since they slashed jobs and blogs and folded Defamer into the main site, these numbers seem…generous. But they’re hiring. So there’s good…news.

Well, the Fall television schedule has yet to debut. The Olympics are over. The hurricane was a dud. The DNC is over. And well, now it’s Republican week. And, Republicans are pretty boring unless their secret gay affairs become public. So, that’s why the press is all aflutter with all things Sarah Palin.

Here’s a couple of our favorites:

  • WaPo‘s Richard Cohen compares Palin the horse Incitatus that was Caligula’s consul and priest.
  • Slate‘s John Dickerson details her ‘experience’ and asks what this means about McCain’s judgment.
  • NYT‘s Maureen Dowd calls this whole thing with Palin a chick flick.
  • Salon‘s Mike Madden writes about Hurricane Bristol.
  • Local Alaska site Mudflats says that Palin is McCain’s ‘Bridge to No Where’.
  • Reuter‘s John Whitesides says that McCain’s choice is the wrong kind of buzz.
  • HuffPo‘s Bonnie Fuller asks if Palin is exploiting her teenage daughter.
  • Michael Carey says that we don’t know Sarah Palin…but really doesn’t get into it after that.
  • Tucker Carlson is in love with her. Which would be on our suicide note.
  • Huffpo has an entire page of Palin coverage.
  • As usual, Jonah Goldberg has nothing interesting, original or of note to say – but is an LAT columnist anyway.
  • Bonnie Fuller On Spitzer’s Kids/Spitzer Spouse Gives Peek at Mansion

Bonnie Fuller flaps her gums about Eliot Spitzer’s daughters.
Fuller, under the guise of “caring”, names them, and gives some quotes from hack pop psych types. At least she doesn’t give their Facebook pages. She’s so far gone, she has no idea what a troll she is.

And Sildal Spitzer must regret doing the house tour for Domino‘s green issue. Voyeurs will be disappointed–there’s no tour of the master bedroom.

    Obligatory Britney Spears Post

We don’t want to but we have to. Britney Spears was rushed by ambulance to UCLA Medical Center, escorted by dozen motorcycle officers, two cruisers and two police helicopters.

Tabloid Baby asks who pays for all this and suggests Harvey Levin should.

And Bonnie Fuller takes time out of her busy day to play psychiatrist and decide that Spears is a histrionic personality. Takes one to know one, as Grannie always said.

Sundown on Sunset: Ring Out the Old

Artist/filmmaker Melinda Hunt adds to the Theresa Duncan/Jeremy Blake saga and challenges Frank Morales’ version.

Anjelica Huston to play Benazir Bhutto in biopic?

When Manuel Mollinedo ran the LA Zoo, animals managed to escape a number of times. Maybe he’s a PETA mole? Or just an incompetent bureaucrat?

Bonnie Fuller picks scandalicious celebs, but her readers like Lana Turner and Liz Taylor better. Maybe Britney can get one of the kids to stab someone.

Sean Penn is available, which means so is Robin, which means fans of The Princess Bride can rekindle their hopes.

Tony Bourdain is Eater of the Year, followed by the cleverly-named Joel Chestnut. Padme Lakshmi, a chesty nut, is third.

Jodie Foster wins the IMDB least screwed-up former child star poll.

AFI needs to stop with the lame-ass lists already.

Bonnie Fuller: Shoots For Pregnant Fish In A Barrel. Still Misses.

396b_pop_star_moms.jpgIn HuffPo, Bonnie Fuller takes on Lynne Spears, the mother of Britney Spears and the knocked-up Jamie Lynn, 16.

Fuller demands to know if Lynne ever sat her girls down and had “The Talk.” You know, a candid, responsible discussion about sex.

But we want to know, Ms. Fuller, did you ever sit Lynne down and have “The Talk.?” You know, a candid, responsible interview for a blog with enough resources to reasonably make that happen?

Let us know if you contact her, Bonnie. That would be a column we’d like to read.
