The Highs and Shiloh’s of Brangelina Photo Economics

If and when Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie sell their south-of-France wedding pictures to the highest bidder (and then presumably donate the proceeds to charity), it will likely fall short of the haul generated by their biological daughter Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt. That’s just one of the intriguing tidbits contained in today’s Daily piece by Michelle Ruiz about the celeb shots currently most coveted by Hollywood paparazzi.

The first photos of Shiloh were sold to People magazine for a staggering $6 million, while pictures taken in Africa that confirmed the couple-status of Jolie and Pitt went for around $1 million. Ruiz estimates that Brangelina wedding day pics will net approximately $2 million:

“That’s going to be the wedding of the century,” Gary Morgan, CEO of Splash photo agency, told Flash of the nuptials. He bets the shots will be closely guarded and sold to the highest bidders in the U.S. and abroad. “They’ll revive the industry — for that week, anyway.”

The Ridiculously Rapid Rise of Angels Weekly Host Alex Curry

There are many memorable tidbits in the easyreadernews.com profile of Alex Curry, the 24-year-old Manhattan Beach resident who debuted this month as host of the Friday Fox Sports West show Angels Weekly. But we were particularly struck by the following details:

Her manager, Peter Gallagher – who usually only works with actors, such as Brad Pitt and Zach Galifianakis – recognized unusual qualities in Curry when he took her on as client. “She is warm, she is bubbly, she is just herself – and it comes across on camera, her personality,” Gallagher said…

Gallagher believes this is just the beginning of a career that has few limits. Hers, he said, is an utterly natural star quality, and unlike so many people attracted to show business, her drive does not emanate from a lack of esteem or need for attention – she genuinely just loves to get to know people and tell their stories.

NPR West Female Staffers Pose with George Clooney

This week has been star-filled over at NPR West in Culver City. First, Brad Pitt came by for an interview. Then, on Wednesday, the ABC-TV hit sitcom Modern Family used the premises to shoot scenes for an upcoming episode during which Claire (Julie Bowen) is radio-interviewed about her run for town council.

Finally, today, George Clooney swung by to tape a chat for “All Things Considered.” NPR producer Ben Bergman shared the picture below, and two things struck FishbowlLA: 1) We had no idea the ratio of NPR West staff was so heavily skewed to female; and 2) It’s hilarious how the majority gender group appears to have pushed Bergman to a barely visible, behind-the-pack position:

Background Extra Recounts His Unlikely Spiritual Mission

LA native Steve Cha has a B.A. in Asian American Studies from UCLA and is currently working on an M.A. in theology at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena. Along the way, he also worked for several years as a professional background extra.

Earlier this year, Cha published a book about his on-set experiences called Hollywood Mission: Possible. With Christmas and Tom Cruise upon us, he is re-promoting a tale of, essentially, the Tim Tebow of background extras:

During his three-year journey, Steve evangelized many famous actors, actresses, directors, and aspirants in Tinsel Town… Steve’s revealing autobiography recounts how the gospel was shared with celebrities such as Steven Spielberg, Brad Pitt, Harrison Ford, Dan Aykroyd, and many other stars.

EXCLUSIVE: Jess Cagle on the Launch of ‘The EW Interview’

It was somewhat unfortunate that all those media misinterpretations of comments made by Brad Pitt to Parade magazine about Jennifer Aniston hit the wire just a day before a September 16 announcement that the actor was the inaugural cover-story beneficiary of a new Entertainment Weekly feature called “The EW Interview.” However, FishbowlLA is pretty sure that in the long run, it is the latter conversation that will stand the test of time.

We got in touch with EW managing editor Jess Cagle via email to find out more about this intriguing new series. Although no one is yet set for a second installment, he says he hopes to share another before the year is out.

“A lot of celebrity profiles focus on a current project with a few personal details wedged in,” Cagle explains. “The EW Interview is really an in-depth discussion with a respected entertainer about his or her work–by a reporter who really knows their stuff. Along the way you get tremendous insight into the subject’s personality and life.”

Head of Environmental Media Association Gets Some UK Love

Even though the press releases section for LA’s Environmental Media Association website is woefully out of date, with the most recent item dating back to 2006, we’ve got some good material for an update. The group’s president Debbie Levin (pictured) has just been anointed “Hollywood’s conscience” by London’s The Observer newspaper.

In its Sunday January 16th Eco Power list of 20 individuals the newspaper feels will be setting 2011′s global environmental agenda, reporter Lucy Siegle taps a number of Yanks including New York mayor Michael Bloomberg and New Orleans rebuilding actor Brad Pitt. Levin took over the reins of the EMA five years ago and knows exactly who she wants to plop in the seats of those red carpet Priuses and Volts:

Levin has her sights trained on young Hollywood: A-listers under 35… EMA events now feature young starlets such as Rosario Dawson, Amy Smart and Olivia Wilde talking about sustainable solutions and EMA programs, including the 16 organic gardens it runs around Los Angeles. Levin’s plans are for more projects, more stars and more green chatter. “We never stop. While you sleep we’re greening the world!” she says.

Jeopardy‘s Class of 2010

Once upon a time, FBLA auditioned for the fearsome game show Jeopardy! Host Alex Trebek warned during a videotaped intro on the Sony lot that the test questions were harder than those of the show, and he was right. The opera queries alone pushed this thin guy to the singing point.

Beginning today, the more talented Jeopardy! class of 2010 will strut their on-air stuff as part of the show’s popular annual College Championship. From an LA PR point of view, the event translates into the kind of hometown media coverage “This Mayor Syncs Up with A/V” could normally only dream of.

Read Matt Taibbi’s Piece About the Financial Meltdown

n602324651_1632554_8121893.jpgWe overheard at a cocktail party, someone describe Matt Taibbi as the only journalist alive that could possibly have groupies.

No, Rachel Maddow is technically not a journalist. Just chill, ladies. No letters.

He writes in Rolling Stone:

The best way to understand the financial crisis is to understand the meltdown at AIG. AIG is what happens when short, bald managers of otherwise boring financial bureaucracies start seeing Brad Pitt in the mirror.

Forbes Has Four Way Tie For Number Two Spot in Top 20 Most Valuable Actors

Fist of Money.gifAngelina Jolie, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp are tied, according to Forbes Magazine in their worth currently. Really? Couldn’t figure out a way to rank the top five huh? Seriously?

If everyone is equal – it’s not a Top 20 list now is it?

Wil Smith is number one, according to the magazine. And in case you’re curious (we were) Tom Cruise wasn’t in the top 10. He ranked 13 down from number one a few years running. Alien conspiracy? Probably.

Clint For Best Actor: Do You Feel Lucky? Well, Do Ya, Punk?

clint3.jpgAs the Oscar ballots were just sent out to hungry voters for those pesky gold statuettes, the pressing question hovers around Dirty Harry and whether he’ll get the acting nod, the L.A. Times predicts.

The critics, well faux critics or columnists or whatever you want to call them, are in disarray as to whether Clint can cull an acting statue. Michael Musto of the Village Voice (who is not a critic), Anne Thompson of Variety (who also is not a critic) and blogger Jeff Wells of Hollywood-Elsewhere.com (who, surprise, is also not a critic) all like Clint for best actor. They seem to think he does feel lucky, punk.

But competition is pretty stiff this year. Frank Langella is likely to get nominated for “Frost/Nixon,” Sean Penn looks like lock for “Milk,” Brad Pitt for “Benjamin Button” and dark horse Mickey ‘They took my fuckin’ thumb’ Rourke for “The Wrestler.

Now remember, the noms haven’t even been announced yet, so these could all be false conjecture.

But Clint is definitely a special case. He’s won for directing and producing but acting has always been a non-starter. Not that Clint couldn’t pull off a decent “Hamlet,” if needed (or maybe “Lear”), but he’s worth voting for because he’s Clint.

And because we here at FBLA aren’t quite sure whether he shot five times or was it six and we don’t want to be the sixth.
