LA Artist Wants Gallery Patrons to Rub Kim Kardashian’s Pregnant Belly

Local artist Daniel Edwards has for some time now been celebrating the “beauty of celebrity pregnancy.” In 2006, he kicked off his Celebrity Baby Boomer series with “Monument to Pro-Life,” which featured a likeness of Britney Spears, nude, giving birth on a bearskin rug.

Next month, Edwards will be adding to the series with a work that is sure to draw lots of vehicles to the parking meters on South La Brea Ave. It’s called “L.A. Fertility”, and will be available starting Wednesday June 5 for touching-viewing at LAB ART Gallery. From today’s announcement:

The life-size full-figured nude Kim Kardashian stands curvaceous and proud, with lactiferous breasts, protruding navel and legs akimbo, and features a voluminous belly designed to entice visitors to give a respectful rub for good luck and success.

$15 Million Marks the Spot for Britney Spears

Desperate for higher ratings after a disappointing first season, The X Factor has reportedly landed pop star Britney Spears as a judge for a whopping $15 million, according to TheWrap.

Spears previously turned down a $10 million offer from Simon Cowell‘s music competition show but it appears $13 million to judge and an additional $2 million to perform was enough to change her mind. The deal hasn’t been officially signed yet as Spears is under a conservatorship with her father, Jamie.

To put this proposed deal in perspective, Paula Abdul received only $2.5 million during her one season as judge on the show.

I think folks will tune in to the first couple of episodes but is Spears relevant enough in 2012 to create a huge increase in ratings? Only time will tell.

Producer of Lindsay Lohan-Inspired Film Tries To Avoid Getting Sued

Sure enough, Lindsay Lohan‘s people are not happy to hear about an unauthorized film based on the life of the troubled actress. Producer and screenwriter Charles Casillo generated plenty of buzz for his movie project Dogs in Pocketbooks when he told NY Post‘s Page Six it was based on the life of LiLo — but he also opened himself up to lawsuits. TMZ reports that the Lohan camp is considering legal action. Says Lohan’s family lawyer Stephanie Ovadia, “They are again using her likeness without her being compensated. Not only that but they are advertising the fact that they are using her likeness.”

Casillo attempted a little damage control, telling TMZ that the lead role is actually a composite of troubled young Hollywood starlets – Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, and Marilyn Monroe were all named.

That probably won’t help much, since Casillo told Page Six the film’s lead character was “a role obviously based on Lindsay Lohan.” Besides, anyone who mentions Marilyn Monroe in the same breath as Paris Hilton and Britney Spears deserves to get sued.

That publishing heir Lydia Hearst Shaw was cast as the film’s lead would have generated plenty of press on its own, making Casillo’s decision to stir up the LiLo hornet’s nest all the more baffling.

Even Christian Filmmakers Don’t Pay Bloggers

Seriously, what is the world coming to? A couple of Cal State Northridge Grads get together to make a film, Crossroad (not to be confused with the 2002 Britney Spears movie Crossroads). No their film, according to their site will highlight Christian values (what, like charity?) and they want some lowly blogger – think meek geek – to write about it for free. “Bring glory to God” but not even $20 to some freelancer? Dude! We’ve seen the Fourth Horsemen and his name is Cheap.

Simon Dumenco Takes on Huffpo…Again

Ad Age media columnist, Simon Dumenco pulls no punches when it comes to Huffpo. He once called the site a ‘media plantation.’ A line we quote at cocktail parties all the time…unless they’re thrown at Arianna’s house. Ahem.

Dumenco’s latest takes exception to Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications given Arianna Huffington the Fred Dressler Lifetime Achievement Award:

Funny how the fact that The Huffington Post fails to pay most of its bloggers didn’t come up when Newhouse Dean Lorraine Branham gushed about the blog mistress in a prepared statement: “Arianna Huffington was ahead of the curve with HuffPo. She embraced the use of new media but never forgot that no matter where or how you tell the story, content is still king. This is what we teach our students.”

Oh, give me a break! Content, in Arianna’s world, is not king, and it never was. Link bait is king; opportunism is king.

Yep, and the phrases “Britney Spears Naked” and “John and Kate Plus 8 Break Up” and “Adam Lambert” are going to get this message out there.

Huffington Post Has The Final Word On Susan Boyle

The other day this fishie got good and mad at our friend Ciaran for saying Susan Boyle had a face that frightens small children. She has a sweet, matronly face, we declared! Kids like that sort of thing! It’s harpies like Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan that the whippersnappers should be scared of.

So as soon as we saw the Huffington Post article by Andy Borowitz on Ms. Boyle, we sent it his way. It’s recommended reading for you, too. An excerpt:

Madonna And Britney Appear In L.A.– But What? No Kiss?

The hot ticket in L.A. last night was at Dodger Stadium where Madonna warbled a few duets with none other than Britney Spears, but the gal girls failed to reprise their surprise sapphic embrace from the 2003 MTV Music Awards.

Britney, sporting a long-sleeved dress shirt and baggy black pants, helped out Madonna by belting along to “Human Nature.” The excitement pretty much ended there, as Spears was lowered off the stage and wasn’t seen again, despite chants of her name for an encore.

Justin Timberlake also took the stage to sing along with Madonna on their collaborative tune “4 Minutes.”

Maybe it was because the pair didn’t team up on Madonna’s “Like a Virgin,” which was the song they made out on.

First Family Becomes First Celebrities

We took it as a joke (and a bad one, at that) when John McCain tried to compare Obama to Paris Hilton, et al. But it turns out Barack Obama‘s presidential win is not only historic for breaking racial barriers and exciting a whole generation of new voters. It’s historic for how — and whom — covered it.

Us Weekly treats the Obamas like the Jolie-Pitts, complete with baby photos and sartorial critiques. Could you imagine an Us Weekly cover featuring John Kerry and Teresa Heinz?

Even Red Carpet Fashion Awards got into the act, going out on a limb to predict the First Lady’s dress designer. (Narciso Rodriguez. Turns out they got it right.)

We’re glad to see the tabs as excited as the rest of the country about this historic day, but we hope this new trend in celeb reporting doesn’t last. It’s one thing to hear what Obama’s family had to say on election night, it’ll be another if they start asking the First Family to weigh in on the latest exploits of Britney Spears.

Michael Hastings Dishes on Dishing

Michael Hastings, noted for using his personal experiences on assignment for material, has penned a piece for GQ titled,”Hack: Confessions of a Presidential Campaign Reporter“.

Objectivity is a fallacy. In campaign reporting more than any other kind of press coverage, reporters aren’t just covering a story, they’re a part of it – influencing outcomes, setting expectations, framing candidates – and despite what they tell themselves, it’s impossible to both be a part of the action and report on it objectively. In some cases, you genuinely like the candidate you’re covering and you root for him, because over the long haul you come to see him as a human being. For a long time, this was John McCain’s ace in the hole with the press, whom he referred to as “my base.” Reporters rode along with him, and he joked with them, and that went a long way toward shaping the tone of their coverage. (Last January a group of reporters asked McCain’s staff to make McCain campaign press T-shirts for them.) And because your success is linked to the candidate’s, you want to be with a winner, because that’s the story that makes the paper or the magazine or gets you on TV.

He also compares following presidential campaigns to watching hotel porn. Why is this significant for us? Well, because every time we mention porn our numbers spike. It used to be Britney Spears or Paris Hilton. But now it’s just porn. Porn. Heh.

WaPo reports:

Staging a convention during a major natural disaster would be a public relations challenge for either political party. But GOP officials say the burden could be especially heavy for their party, whose reputation was tarred by the Bush administration’s bungling of Katrina and its aftermath in 2005.

A hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico could also cast unwelcome attention on the offshore oil rigs that McCain has championed as a solution to rising gasoline prices — they are now being evacuated in the face of the coming storm.
