Former Neon Tommy editor-in-chief Callie Schweitzer has continued making a name for herself in New York and beyond. She was just named one of Forbes “30 Under 30” media figures alongside names like Ezra Klein and Brian Stetler. Forbes describes Schweitzer, director of marketing and special projects for Vox Media, as “One of New York City’s best-networked youngsters.”

We called it years ago, when we said she’d be running the LA Times before she turned 30. Prove us right Callie! Then give us a job and pay us like it’s 1999! Just because you can!

Former Neon Tommy editor-in-chief Callie Schweitzer continues to impress. The USC Annenberg grad just landed a new gig with Vox Media (SB Nation, The Verge, Polygon) as director of marketing and special projects.

“It’s an amazing opportunity at a phenomenal company, and I’m so excited,” she tells us via email.

Schweitzer starts her new job on Monday. She was most recently the deputy publisher of Talking Points Memo.

After only six months as the publisher’s assistant at Talking Points Memo, former Neon Tommy editor-in-chief Callie Schweitzer just earned herself a nice promotion. She’s now the deputy publisher of TPM, taking over the former spot of Andrew Golis, who’s now at Frontline.

James Rainey documents Neon Tommy‘s continued triumphs today in the LA Times. From Rainey we learn that Neon Tommy pulls in more than 270,000 unique visitors and 360,000 page views a month, making it the sixth most trafficked college news organization in America. We also learn that the site’s undergraduate editor-in-chief Callie Schweitzer has already landed herself a gig after graduation–with Talking Points Memo.

We spoke with Schweitzer, who told us the job is “a dream come true for her” and that she’ll be moving to New York to start the job at the end of May.

Her official title will be “assistant to the publisher” where she’ll be working directly under Josh Marshall.

Over at Neon Tommy, editor-in-chief Callie Schweitzer has a wonderful profile of Pulitzer Prize Winning photographer John Filo, who is best known for his photographs of the May 4 massacre at Kent State in 1970. It’s a long and comprehensive profile, but perhaps most interesting is the story behind the photo that won Filo the Pulitzer–a shot of 14-year-old Mary Ann Vecchio screaming over the dead and bleeding body of student Jeffrey Miller.

“Blood was just pumping out of his body, on the hot asphalt. It just stops you and I said, ‘I’ve got to get out of here, I’ve got to leave.’ And I ran.”

But something stopped him when he got to the bottom of the hill and stood close to Miller’s body.

“I said, ‘Why are you running now? It’s all over.’”

And that’s when he saw 14-year-old Mary Ann Vecchio running up the street to Miller.

He pressed the shutter on his camera, but it would be hours before he realized the emotion he captured.
