It’s Wednesday, Fiorina Lost By 10 Points and She Has Yet to Concede

The campaign that started off with a Demon Sheep has continued to be bizarre: Carly Fiorina is filibustering her concession.

Former CEOs Meg Whitman and Fiorina lost by landslides. It was never close. With over 90% reporting Whitman lost by over 12 points and Fiorina by 10. Whitman held off her concession until after Jerry Brown made toned down show at the saved and refurbished Fox Theater in Downtown Oakland. “We haven’t gotten all the votes in yet, but it’s good enough for government work,” said the governor-elect/former governor Governor Brown.

Some Midterm Races on Twitter

Republicans have “institutionalized” Facebook. But Twitter is still the wild west. Well, not as wild as ’09. Politicians are not tweeting themselves anymore. But we have done some of our own states on key races around the country and in our state.

Nevada Senate race:
Harry Reid (D): 12,563 followers

California Governor Race:

Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina Were Failures as CEOs

Amidst a series of profiles in the major dailies that portray Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina as tough-minded, successful businesswomen, comes a couple of long-awaited effort to expose what really happened under their tenures at eBay and HP respectively. Whitman and her personally enriching but appalling corporate helmsmanship get it especially bad.

But she’s a billionaire! How could she possibly have been a bad CEO? The eXiled explains:

Whitman’s fabled $1 billion in wealth was acquired in the first few months of her tenure, well before she could muck the company’s bottom line up. That billion-plus that eBay’s directors handed Whitman was perhaps the easiest billion anyone has ever been handed in corporate history: eBay hired Whitman in March 1998, when the company was already the tech world’s darling. Just six months after she joined, eBay went public, making Meg Whitman an overnight billionaire thanks to stock options that allowed her to buy eBay stock at just 7 cents a share, and sell them on the market for as high as $170 per share.

Breaking: Carly Fiorina to be Released From Hospital Today

Republican Candidate for Senate and cancer survivor Carly Fiorina‘s campaign tweeted she’s going to be released from the hospital and go back to the campaign trail. We wrote yesterday that although Fiorina was hospitalized due to an infection, her campaign was still tweeting boiler plate jabs at her opponent. Well, five hours later they tweeted cryptically thanking people for all the prayers. Now they are using Twitter to announce the candidate’s upcoming release from a LA area hospital.

Fiorina Hospitalized… Campaign Still Tweeting Jabs at Boxer

Look, the only genuine thing about former HP CEO Carly Fiorina is she’s a cancer survivor. It’s relatable. It’s admirable. When she talks about her illness she becomes a real person. Then she just keeps on talking and ruins the whole thing. Anyway, Ms. Fiorina was admitted to the hospital today due to an infection related to her double mastectomy. But instead of tweeting about it or NOT tweeting – her campaign is playing it “business as usual.” Which means tweeting that her opponent, Barbara Boxer is a failure every couple of hours and not mentioning the infection today at all.

Seems…well fake. Fake and insincere. Just like her phony Boxer protests and imaginary demon sheep. Way to go. Way to suck all the sympathy out of going to the hospital.

What People Who Worked With Fiorina and Whitman Think of Them

Unvarnished is a Yelp for people. Yes, your awesome boss you can’t fawn over in public? Now there’s a place to park that comment. Also that guy who never shows up on time? There’s a place. Oh and your former CEO who nearly wrecked your company and tanked your pension and is now running for U.S. Senate? She’s on there too. Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina are both reviewed by people who know them best, at least in a professional capacity.

They claim they’re on the cutting edge of tech…in this instance they actually are.

These aren’t just random Internet trolls either. The people who have been able to leave reviews on Unvarnished in the beta phase have been by invite only. And in order to leave a review about your colleague, you must be – well colleagues.

The LA Times Begrudgingly Endorses Jerry Brown for Governor

The LA Times’ endorsed Jerry Brown for governor in his race with Ebay billionaire Meg Whitman. But they didn’t seem too happy about it.

For its next governor, California is in dire need of a dynamic and optimistic grownup, one with the personality, perspective and presence to remind voters that theirs is a fabulously wealthy state and not the downward-spiraling mess that national media reports delight in comparing to Greece or Portugal. We need someone with a Reaganesque talent for revealing to ourselves our own exceptionalism and dismissing the self-doubt of the last decade. We need a Pat Brown or Earl Warren-style focus on our future, with investment in education and infrastructure. And we need a leader deft and clever enough to move Californians away from a three-decade pattern of undermining our own government, checking and counterchecking ourselves with selfish initiatives to lock up special program spending, lock out political decision-making and accountability and lock in a perpetual and destructive budget standoff, year after year.

Fate presents the state instead with two candidates who fall well short of our current needs.

Um, hate to break the news to you guys, but you’ve just described the last…hmmm…30 years of American democracy. And no, we don’t need another Ronald Reagan to delude us into misguided and largely destructive notions of our own self-importance so we can carry on with business as usual.

The Times offered a more hearty, if somewhat contradictory endorsement of Barbara Boxer for senate, over Republican Carly Fiorina. The Times’ editorial suggests Boxer struggles in “exercising influence commensurate with her seniority,” but at the same time suffers from an “assertiveness that often is perceived as arrogance.”

So you’re telling us she’s assertive to the point of arrogance, but fails to assert herself? Alrighty then.

Happy election season everyone!

The Curious Case of Carly Fiorina’s Protesters Part Two

After our post yesterday about the notable protesters in favor of the Republican candidate for Senator, we received a very nice note from the Carly Fiorina campaign. They said that we wrongly identified materials as astroturf, although we never used the term “astroturf” and they offered no proof as to why we were mistaken as to the authenticity of the protesters.

We did get a chance to ask them why the signs were all the same. The explanation they gave was that Office Max and Staples all carry the same type of paper and markers. We’ve posted the email exchange in full here.

Fiorina Camp Emails FBLA

This is the entire email exchange we had yesterday with the Carly Fiorina for Senate campaign regarding our post about their protesters who literally seem on the same page.

On 7/7/10 5:07 PM, James Richardson wrote:

Tina –
On behalf of the Fiorina campaign, I wanted to touch base in reference to your post today on the FailedSenator protests.

The man you identified as a Fiorina aide in image one is neither a campaign staffer nor is he a repeat protester. In fact, there were no repeat protesters.

The Curious Case of Carly Fiorina’s Protesters

What does it mean when all of your protest signs are on the same paper in the same handwriting with the same colored markers – donning the same slogans in different cities on allegedly different days? It means your spontaneous organic grassroots movement is totally on the same page! Solidarity!

Carly Fiorina‘s Twitter account is proudly boasting about all these protests around California. “Protesters are gathering in Sacramento asking, ‘where are the jobs?!?!’”

We’ve figured out where one job is: it’s holding this thing the Twitter account calls a blimp and describes as “flying high above the Sacramento skies” when it’s actually a balloon held by a tall white kid.

After the break we’ve posted the protest photos from Fiorina’s Twitpic account. They’re unintentionally funny – of course nothing as great as the famed Demon Sheep.

Carly Fiorina’s Mark on Internet Pop Culture This Second

This is the kind of thing marketing dudes who “leak” videos with Chevy Chase in them are trying to accomplish.
The Race for Boxer’s Senate Seat Gets Rolling, Weird

Carly Fiorina wants to be a US Senator and has a thing against farm animals? We’re not really sure. We know that this campaign video and the attempt to coin the term FCINO (an acronym for fiscal conservative in name only, but it looks and sounds like a misspelling of Fiorina) is note worthy. We asked a commercial producer how much this video probably cost.

She told us,”Wow…they did shoot all of that sheep stuff. It wasn’t stock footage.” Then continued, “Paid crew for the sheep stuff and an editor for two days worth of cutting that stuff, titling, paid crew, equipment rental and effects plus the gathering of the rest of the stock footage…but there is an office scene too – probably $15,000.”

How much does the normal political 30-second spot of picture montages and big voice overs usually cost? “If they shop it out to a outside editor they could do it for $2000,” informed our producer.

Fifteen thousand for a three minute spot about how your primary opponent isn’t fiscally conservative enough? Priceless.

Our economy needs it – shoot more sheep!

Conservative Female Former CEO Descends on 2010 CA Election…Another One

Ousted HP exec, former John McCain adviser, Sarah Palin bus throw-her-underer – Carly Fiorina has announced her candidacy for Senate. She’s seeking the GOP nomination to challenge Senator Barbra Boxer next year.

Fiorina now joins former eBay exec Meg Whitman in running for a political office. Whitman is seeking to slum it the governor’s mansion in Sacramento as a Republican.

We spot a trend. It really makes us wonder who is less popular right now – Republicans or CEOs. And if combining the two neutralizes or enhances the stigma. Will a state, home to the county with the highest unemployment rate in the US want to give golden parachute eligible women gigs on the government payroll?

We’re staying tuned.
