In other words, the online show that began in an east coast basement is now on par with one of Mel Brooks‘ most famous characters. Too bad they couldn’t wrangle Brooks for the April 19 broadcast.

Another funny remark by Oh, who spoke from the lobby stage ahead of his New Jersey high school pal Cenk Uygur, was a remark that touched on the fact that many Young Turks personnel work for below-market-rate salaries. After noting that one producer had turned down another opportunity that paid three times his TYT salary, Oh joked that he still had to fire that person “for being so stupid.”

“I’ve worked over the years with Matt Lauer, Katie Couric, Chris Matthews…” raved senior producer Roland Woerner. “I’ve never seen anyone with the ability to do a program like this without a teleprompter.”

The same goes for Uygur’s control-room brain trust. When a host and program run off a teleprompter, all sorts of cues can be “tagged in,” to help coordinate when to throw to a graphic, guest, specific camera shot and so on. With Uygur, there is no such safety net; the resulting flow, presided over with a masterful, arms-wide touch by director Genji Keen, is infectious. TYT’s ultra-modern and even-tempered operation is the kind of 21st century outlet many unemployed journalists would kill to be able to work for.

Think it might be time for The Young Turks to fire the clearly foreign transcription service that does the subtitles for their YouTube videos. Because TYT‘s deaf audience is going to think Cenk Uygur is a stroke victim.

It only gets better from there. Seriously, watch the whole video with the close captioning turned on. As much as we love TYT, the show is actually slightly more entertaining this way.

Those of you who have never spent days agonizing over whether Mike Shanahan is going to inexplicably bench Roy Helu for the first three quarters of a meaningless game against the Miami Dolphins, despite not giving a flying crap about the Redskins, can never understand Uygur’s joy.

The latest subject is producer Jayar Jackson, who—with his unbuttoned white dress shirt and at-ease bow tie (pictured)—looks like he just came from a rocking all-night formal affair. Jackson started out as an intern on The Young Turks radio show and offers a good primer on how to pronounce Cenk Uygur‘s name.

Other show staff profiled this week include director Jesus Godoy [video] and producer Dave Koller [video]. Both have been with the program since the very beginning.

In an interview with AP TV writer Frazier Moore, Current TV chairman Al Gore revealed that LA based Internet smash The Young Turks has pacted with the San Francisco network to hit the airwaves by year’s end as Keith Olbermann‘s lead-in. It’s a perfect place for hosts Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian to expand their already impressive Internet reach, following the former’s brief and controversial expanded role with MSNBC:

Gore called himself “a big fan” of Uygur’s MSNBC show, saying, “He demonstrated that his phenomenal success on the Web translates easily and well into the television format.”
