NFL Network anchor Rich Eisen and radio host Dan Patrick were recently runners-up at the Sports Emmys to perennial winner Bob Costas. But that still leaves the business of ceremonial first-pitch bragging rights.

On Sunday, before the Dodgers game against the Cardinals, Eisen threw out a wide-right ceremonial first ball. But it’s what PA announcer Erick Smith said that is garnering attention this morning: “A better pitch than Dan Patrick… Let’s hear it for Rich Eisen.”

Lakers Get the DP Show Mock-Headline Treatment

For today’s edition of “Fans vs. Fritzy” mock headlines, Dan Patrick and the Danettes zeroed in on the titanic Laker woes. With entries such as “Howard the Hell Did This Happen?…” and “Kiss My Nash…”, the fans via Paul “Pauly” Pabst “toasted” executive producer Todd “Fritzy” Fritz.

Then again, it’s not really a fair fight. Kind of like when the Lakers square off against the Thunder, Grizzlies or any other median-age-advantaged Western Conference rivals.

Sporting a black home Kings jersey on his national radio show this morning, Patrick has been singing the praises of the hottest team in the NHL.

I’m expecting a witty and offensive tweet from the @LAKings account if they pull off the sweep Wednesday night at Staples Center.

Charting the Success of Dan Patrick and ‘The Danettes’

Despite the fact that Howard Stern has built an empire around the daily rote of interacting on-air with a colorful bunch of studio workmates, Dan Patrick met with resistance when he first pitched a similar radio show format after leaving ESPN in 2007.

As he tells Joe Flint of the LA Times, his new bosses were none too thrilled with the idea, but he held firm and today, his daily joshing with the “Danettes” – executive producers Paul Pabst and Todd Fritz, operations director Patrick “Seton” O’Connor, and Sports Illustrated blogger Andrew “McLovin” Perloff — is a key reason why the program has amassed a combined weekly radio, TV, and online audience of around 2.5 million. Patrick shares an interesting Hollywood comparison for his “Man Cave” ministrations:

“I don’t like it to be labeled a sports show,” Patrick said. “We’ve created almost a Truman Show, where you’re looking into this little world we’ve created, and we let you look in, warts and all.”

The Charlie Sheen-Dan Patrick Show

That’s what actor Charlie Sheen suggested he and sports talk radio show host Dan Patrick start calling their budding, eye-popping collaboration this morning, after he called in unannounced to follow up his much talked about Monday appearance on The Dan Patrick Show.

There are now possibly plans for Dan and “the Danettes” to take their Super Bowl RV to Sheen’s backyard for a future remote broadcast (Sheen has already texted his approval of the idea). Separately, Patrick may help produce a taped “tell all” interview between Sheen and New York Yankee Nick Swisher. This morning, Sheen recounted the mother of all media interventions:

“Basically, Viacom showed up at my house and said, ‘Dude, it’s getting really obvious and we’re really worried about you. We don’t give a rat’s tooey about the show, we care about your health.’ So they came in and just said, man to man, we have to shut it down.

ET Correspondent Not Surprised by Reports of Ted Williams LA Altercation

Filling in this morning as host on Dan Patrick‘s nationally syndicated AM sports talk radio show, Entertainment Tonight correspondent (and former Patrick ESPN cubicle mate) Kevin Frazier (pictured) was in a unique position to comment on a report in the LA Times of an altercation last night at the Hollywood Renaissance Hotel involving golden-voiced wonder Ted Williams.

Frazier spent Saturday tagging along with Williams around LA for an ET report. He told radio listeners that it was almost inevitable something like the reported hotel argument between Williams and one of his daughters would happen.
