Lakers Announcer Revisits Toronto Makeup Incident That Went Viral

Chicago-based 411mania.com contributor Tony Farinella has posted a solid interview with 710 ESPN radio host and Lakers play-by-play man John Ireland.

It’s always a compliment when the person being interviewed notes that no one has asked them a particular question before. This happens twice to Farinella. When asked to grade his first season as a Lakers radio announcer, Ireland gives himself a B minus. The veteran journalist also says his favorite “third chair” celebrity guests on the broadcast so far have been Jamal Wilkes, David Hasselhoff, Andy Garcia and Jeannie Buss.

Ireland also revisits an infamous incident from earlier this year during which he could be seen on TV in the background of a Lakers-Raptors broadcast, applying makeup to his face. He says this was a particularly lazy version of dealing with the juxtaposition of his radio duties and a live post-game TV interview show:

“It was the sixth game of a six-game round trip. What I had done was I had always gone back to the bathroom at halftime to put my makeup on, so when the game ends, I can run right to TV.”

Angelyne Still Stopping Traffic on Twitter

Although fiftyish fading billboard bombshell Angelyne ditched Twitter personally in 2007 after a dozen or so trailblazing tweets, she remains a presence on the social media network. All thanks to her trademark pink Corvette.

The sight of Angelyne herself is not what it used to be. But her instantly recognizable mode of transportation remains unblemished, continuing to provide a thrill to anyone who catches sight of it on the streets of LA. Even someone like @nerdist Chris Hardwick, responsible for picture at right. FishbowlLA would not be at all surprised if this Idaho gal ultimately chooses to be buried in the car or at least, per specific instructions, have her ashes dispersed from the passenger side window.

While Angelyne’s website has been downscaled to a trunk full of mags and her billboards are today less frequent, folks who come upon the Corvette in Chatsworth, a Pavillions parking lot and many other locations cannot upload Twitpics fast enough.

Get Ready for Rocky: The Musical

Today in Hamburg, Germany, Sylvester Stallone gifted Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel and every other late night talk show host with an early Christmas present–the unbeatable set-up of a musical stage version of 1976 Best Picture Rocky. Insert your David Hasselhoff, raw egg and-or “Reeee-fuuuuund!” jokes here.

The show is not due for another year, and bizarrely will world premiere in that same German city. Stallone is teamed on the venture with real-life boxing brothers Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko, plus a whole range of Manhattan minted stage talent. Per the Hollywood Reporter:

Broadway veteran Thomas Meehan (The Producers) will write the script to Rocky: the Musical. Ragtime’s Tony-award winning lyricist Lynn Ahrens and composer Stephen Flaherty will re-team for the music, which will include songs from the Rocky films, among them “Eye of the Tiger,” “Gonna Fly Now” and “Take You Back.” Tony Award nominee Alex Timbers will direct.

Hasselhoff Child Support: David Hasselhoff has agreed to pay $25,000 a month to support his ex-wife and children. We hear he’s taking the money directly from his beer and burger fund.

Danny Federici Dies: Danny Federici, keyboardist for the E Street Band, died Thursday after battling melanoma for three years. He was 58. Former rock critic Robert Hilburn is quoted extensively in the un-bylined obit. We have to wonder if he was interviewed, or if that was just Hilburn’s copy reworked.

OMFG: Hoping to boost old fashioned ratings for its hit show Gossip Girls, the CW television network said it would no longer offer free Internet streams of new episodes when the show returns Monday. Said fans of the show, “L8r, losers.”

Harmonic Convergence: David Hasselhoff and Ryan Seacrest Team Up

Ryan Seacrest is poised to produce Tales of the Hoff, an E! comedy starring David Hasselhoff.

In a sure sign of … something… E! is trying to add more scripted programming into its mix. This one will “follow the fictional dark and twisted trials and tribulations of an international icon as he navigates Hollywood and the world of dating after divorce,” according to Variety.

This is fiction?

Dan O’Keefe will write the pilot and exec produce. Seacrest, Hasselhoff and Eliot Goldberg will co-exec produce, along with Chuck Russell, who will also direct.

Journalist Darleene Powells, she of the three “E”s, keeps KCBS’s website news-a-licious. She blogs, she takes photographs, she’s all in love with her husband. She answered our uncannily revealing, albeit vapid, questions.

1. What newspapers do you read? It’s been a while since I regularly read a print newspaper. I, do however, get daily email summaries from the LA Times and the Daily News. I also read the Ventura County Star pages that my husband designs.

2. Which ones do you move your lips to while reading? Heehee. I haven’t moved my lips to reading since my Baby-Sitters Club Days.

3. Which Web sites are on your favorites–besides FBLA? I’m obsessed with local LA websites. I always read cbs2.com (of course!), LAO, Metroblogging LA and Franklin Avenue. Cute Overload, I Can Has Cheezburger?, Basic Instructions and Go Fug Yourself always make me laugh. I also like to read Luke Ford, The God Blog and Friendly Fire. I often like to see what my buddy and coworker beFrank is doing.

4. Where do you get your car washed? Um. What does that mean? What is this washing of the car?

5. Do you know your dentist’s first name? Heh. No. I hardly know his last name or the name of his practice. I think its in Calabasas?
