EXCLUSIVE: Lost Arlene Dahl Interview Highlights One of Hollywood’s Unlikeliest Age-Gap Romances

If you Google the name of retired Hollywood actress Arlene Dahl, the primary search result is a wonderful 1985 article by People magazine reporter John Stark. Today, FishbowlLA is thrilled to be able to add to this strand by means of a “lost” interview done with Dahl ahead of her July 1984 marriage to Marc Rosen.

Separated in age by 18 years, the two tied the knot several decades after the coupling of Mae West and Chester Rybinski/Paul Novak, and years ahead of two other more famous older-woman-younger man Hollywood unions: Susan Sarandon-Tim Robbins and Demi Moore-Ashton Kutcher. Unlike those last two pairings, Dahl and Rosen are still together today, in spite of an age difference greater than that of Moore-Kutcher (15 1/2 years) or Sarandon-Robbins (12 years).

In the lost, pre sixth-wedding conversation, Dahl explains why she has been married so many times and candidly shares her concerns about the Rosen age difference. Her union was sealed long before the term “cougar” was coined by a Canadian dating site in 1999 and further popularized in a 2001 book by Valerie Gibson. But if the Internet had been around back then, you can be sure bloggers would have made liberal use of the term. From the lost interview:

“I was raised in the Midwest and I’ve done everything according to form. I’ve been a very old-fashioned girl. I don’t have romance until I get married. And I always [until now] marry an older man.”

Nice little exclusive from EW senior writer Anthony Breznican heading into the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. He got word from the makers of Lovelace that after a lot of casting drama involving Sarah Jessica Parker for the role of Gloria Steinhem, it all wound up on the cutting room floor:

Parker was a last-minute addition to the film, which features Amanda Seyfried in the life story of the woman who starred in the 1972 X-rated movie Deep Throat. The Sex and the City actress was an emergency fill-in for Demi Moore, who dropped out of the movie in the middle of production after she suffered unspecified health problems and was hospitalized…

With the film now just days away from its debut at the Sundance Film Festival, directors Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman have told EW that it turned out they didn’t need the character after all. Parker, who played the role of feminist icon Gloria Steinem, has joined a long list of actors left on the cutting room floor.

Ashton Kutcher Returning to Punk’d

The original punk master is back at it again.

Actor Ashton Kutcher will make his return to Punk’D as part of the 2012 MTV Movie Awards pre-show on June 3 at 8 p.m. The show returned this season following a five-year hiatus.

The two Hollywood celebrities that Kutcher will punk haven’t been announced yet.

Regardless of the celebs involved, nothing will top his ongoing punk of Demi Moore.

ASME Announces 2011 ‘Best Cover’ Winners

People magazine won “Best Celebrity & Entertainment Cover” for its royal wedding issue in the American Society of Magazine Editors’ annual Cover of the Year competition. People was also a finalist in the same category for its tribute to Liz Taylor after her passing last year.

New York won the big “Best Cover” award for its shot of an elderly pregnant woman posing naked a la Demi Moore.

Demi Moore Reportedly Hospitalized for Whippit Use

Demi Moore‘s hospitalization on Monday night for “exhaustion” has many speculating on what could have made her so damn tired. Now TMZ claims to know.

An unnamed source identified only as a friend of Moore told the tabloid website that they were inhaling whippits Monday when the 49-year-old actress had a bad reaction and “lapsed into semi-consciousness.” Paramedics were called, and you know the rest.

Whippits, in case you’re wondering, are small canisters of nitrous oxide. Inhaled, they give the user a quick, giddy high, and are primarily used by teenagers and people too broke to buy real drugs. Also, they can give you a nasty headache. Or so we’re told.

Ashton Kutcher in Trouble for Pro-Paterno Tweet

Ashton Kutcher tweeted the above before he learned about the child sex abuse scandal that was the reason for Paterno’s firing. And boy, is he sorry he did.

Twitter users quickly piled on Kutcher, who is an outspoken activist in the fight against the sexual exploitation of children. Kutcher quickly tweeted his remorse:

LA Times Chronicles City’s Other Celebrity-Endorsed Religion

Though coincidental, the timing of an excellent two-part LA Times series on LA’s Kabbalah Centre seems almost anti-spiritual, given the current marital troubles reportedly enshrouding Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore. In happier times, they were wed by a Kabbalah teacher.

In Part Two of the investigation, reporters Harriet Ryan and Kim Christensen focus on an aspect that is as critical for religious success in LA as it is for ascension in the movie, TV and sex tape businesses. The celebrity factor:

The first celebrity drawn to the Kabbalah Centre was Sandra Bernhard, who began studying in 1995… She dove into kabbalah classes with a charismatic Israeli teacher, Eitan Yardeni. She was effusive in the media about kabbalah, which she said had eliminated “at least 80% of the chaos in my life.” In her Hollywood circle, she was a one-woman marketing campaign for Yardeni and the center.

Ashton Kutcher Going After Village Voice Media Advertisers

After an initial Twitter flamewar with The Village Voice–and by extension Village Voice Media–over its recent story trashing his “Real Men Don’t Buy Girls” anti-human-trafficking campaign, Ashton Kutcher‘s Twitter feed went silent on the matter for about 16 hours. The Village Voice took that time to mercilessly ridicule Kutcher.

Well, Kutcher isn’t sleeping anymore. He’s going after Village Voice Media’s major national advertisers. Disney, Domino’s and Columbia University all received tweets from Kutcher announcing that their advertising dollars helped support a “digital brothel.”

Village Voice Media REALLY Wants to Hold on to Its Adult Classified Ads

Village Voice Media has launched another “special investigation” into the secret and tawdry world of anti-child-sex-trafficking advocacy. A few months ago, VVM ran a lengthy piece snarkily dismissing a Women’s Funding Network study, which showed child prostitution is a booming business, aided by online ads–like the kind VVM sells on its site Backpage. Now they’re back with another opus, posted on the website of every paper in the chain, belittling Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore‘s “Real Men Don’t Buy Girls” campaign. Why? Because the actors dared to argue there may be 100,000 to 300,000 child sex slaves in America.

“There are not 100,000 to 300,000 children in America turning to prostitution every year,” VVM argues in its latest expose. “The statistic was hatched without regard to science. It is a bogeyman.”

To help prove their point, the authors of the piece note that there is an average of only 827 annual arrests for underage prostitution in Americas 37 biggest cities.

Hmmmm…that’s a good point….oh wait! No, it’s complete horseshit.

Demi Moore & CNN Team Up for Documentary on Sex Trafficking

Demi Moore, in conjunction with CNN’s Freedom Project, will host an hourlong report for the network on child sex trafficking. The documentary, called “Nepal’s Stolen Children,” is scheduled to air on June 26.

The New York Times details some of the program’s content:

Ms. Moore meets girls as young as 11 who had been forced into prostitution and were rescued by a Nepalese nonprofit.

At one point she talks to Nepal’s prime minister, Jhalanath Khanal. At another, she goes home with one victim to find out if the girl’s family will accept or reject her. Rejection is pervasive because of the stigma of sex trafficking in some cultures.

Along with her husband Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore heads up The Demi and Ashton Foundation (DNA) to combat child sex slavery. Wonder how they would feel about the adult ads in the back of the LA Weekly that likely involve victims of human trafficking?

Patrick Schwarzenegger: Politics? No. Dating Miley Cyrus? Maybe…

The May issue of Details magazine contains a well-timed profile of Patrick Schwarzenegger, the 17-year-old son of Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Despite the Kennedy blood, Patrick made it clear to interviewer Laurence Lowe he wasn’t interested in going the Governator route: “No, politics isn’t on the list.”

Hollywood, however, is a different story. Patrick has already started his own clothing company, and just recently landed a modeling agent. And then there are the starlets:

“I just saw Tallulah over winter break,” he says, referring to the daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore. “I was at their house in Sun Valley.” Although he just reunited with an ex, Patrick cockily refers to his tweet-mates Kendall Jenner and Selena Gomez as “girls for the future.”

“My eye, though,” he adds, “is set on Miley.”

Two Very Different Ashton Kutcher ‘Exclusives’

Over at Zillow.com today, it’s all sweetness and light as far as Ashton Kutcher‘s decision to sell a home he purchased in 2004 and then extensively renovated with the help of his dad. The realtor involved will donate part of his commission to Ashton and Demi’s charity, and tours of the home and special designer merchandise are also to be auctioned off via Gilt.com to raise further such funds.

But hold on a minute. Over at Radar Online, the sleazy headline blares “Ashton Kutcher Puts House Up for Sale Where He Had Alleged Affair on Wife Demi.” There’s only one problem; the text of the article directly contradicts the headline:

As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Kutcher was accused of having a steamy one-night affair with 21-year-old Brittney Jones – in the home he shares with Demi Moore – after meeting her out one night at Lucky Strike bowling alley in Hollywood.
