Kobe Bryant, Unplugged

The media is having fun this morning with footage of Kobe Bryant crashing Pau Gasol’s Game 3 press conference and dishing about their former teammate Derek Fisher. Far more interesting to FishbowlLA are the comments made by the Lakers superstar to Yahoo! Sports columnist Adrian Wojnarowski.

Bryant long ago established a reputation for telling it like it is, when the mood strikes. So, not long after amiably gliding through a post-game chat on national TV with Lisa Salters, there was this:

“I don’t give a [expletive] what you say,” Bryant told Yahoo! Sports late Friday. “If I go out there and miss game winners, and people say, ‘Kobe choked, or Kobe is seven for whatever in pressure situations.’ Well, [expletive] you.”

Women in PR Honors Veteran Publicist Eileen Koch*

Tomorrow at the Roosevelt Hotel, Miami based organization Women in PR will host an awards luncheon for Eileen Koch. The event is timed to coincide with this weekend’s MTV Video Music Awards.

Koch moved from New York to LA at age 16, working initially as a dancer. But in recent decades, she has made her mark with celebrity PR moves under the banner of Eileen Koch and Company. Clients past and present include Jamie Foxx, Derek Fisher, Guess?Marciano, Carmen Electra, and Marisa Miller. Her path to publicity began in the corridors of personal management and a certain Ukrainian beauty:

Koch decided in her late 20s to start her own management company specializing in children and teens. One of the first young faces to catch her eye was Milla Jovovich; Koch discovered and managed the Ukrainian beauty secure pivotal jobs that would propel her from obscurity into a top model and actress virtually overnight.

LA Times Columnist Offers Wonky Pointers on How to Be a ‘True Angeleno’

Longtime LA Times staffer Hector Tobar (pictured) is getting a lot of tweets and Facebook shoutouts today for his column containing the top ten ways to behave like a “true Angeleno.” This despite the fact that the list is about as nimble as Derek Fisher‘s 2010-11 transition defense.

FishbowlLA had to laugh at Tobar’s #2 – “Use your turn signals.” Uh, not sure what LA Tobar has been driving in, but as far as we know, that’s the very opposite way to be mistaken for a multi-tasking LA-er. Heck, even when at a four-way stop sign intersection, people here almost never offer the courtesy of an activated blinker. (We’ve got the many near-collisions to prove it.)

Fox Sports West Contributor Commits Foul Analogies

Ugly. That’s the word that came mind when FishbowlLA stumbled over paragraph two of Matt Smith‘s Fox Sports West column celebrating LA Laker Lamar Odom, ahead of the power forward’s expected anointment this afternoon as the NBA’s sixth man. Check it out for yourself:

Odom is like caulk or grout–admittedly not the most flattering of analogies–without either your house falls apart. Odom fills in the cracks… all of them.
