Only four photographers can claim to have snapped pictures from the sidelines of each and every one of the NFL’s 46 Super Bowls. Among that select group is John Biever (pictured), presented last night at the Beverly Hilton with the Lucie Foundation’s award for Achievement in Sports:

He started photography working with his father, Vernon, who was the long time Green Bay Packer sideline photographer… Biever vividly remembers shooting the 1967 NFL Championship game in Green Bay, the infamous ‘Ice Bowl’, played in -15 degree temperatures. A picture he took at that game, of Packer QB Bart Starr scoring the winning touchdown with less than 30 seconds to play, has been called one of the iconic photographs of NFL history. He was 16 at the time.

A long time ago, Shasta Darlington (pictured) graduated from Middlebury College and began her journalism career in Mexico City, writing for The News and the LA Times. Since then, she has worked for Bloomberg, Reuters and CNN.

As a correspondent for CNN in Havana, Darlington traveled a number of times to Brazil; the Latin American country was also her base from 1997 to 2001 for the above mentioned wire services. So it makes perfect sense that she will now be heading up CNN’s new bureau in São Paulo:

In Havana, Darlington filed stories in English and Spanish across a range of topics including Fidel Castro‘s illness, his handover to his brother Raul Castro, and the first years of Raul’s succession. Darlington also travelled multiple times to Brazil from Havana, most recently to cover the 2011 floods in Rio de Janeiro State and President Obama’s visit in March, and the 2010 Presidential elections for CNN’s global audience.

With the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2016 Summer Olympics set for Brazil, posting Darlington there makes extra good sense. As does the fact that this reporter is also fluent in a third language, Portuguese.
