E! news and red carpet host Giuliana Rancic announced Monday on Today that she is undergoing a double mastectomy as part of her breast cancer treatment.

The 36-year-old had a failed lumpectomy that didn’t get rid of the cancer. Instead of going through another lumpectomy, Rancic decided on a double mastectomy — which means there’s less than a one percent chance of the cancer returning.

In addition, Ranic would like to have a child with her husband, Bill, and radiation treatment would further delay parenthood.

Giuliana Rancic announced Monday that she’s battling breast cancer.

Doctors for the E! news and red carpet host discovered the cancer after Rancic attempted to get pregnant through in vitro fertilization. Rancic’s pregnancy attempts were featured on her Style Network reality show, Giuliana & Bill.

“Through my attempt to get pregnant for the third time, we sadly found out that I have early stages of breast cancer,”Rancic told NBC’s Today. “It’s been a shock. A lot of people have been asking, we saw that you went and got IVF, are you pregnant? But sadly, we’ve had to put that off.”

The 36-year-old will undergo surgery this week followed by six weeks of radiation. Her prognosis is good since the cancer was discovered early.

Long before Ryan Seacrest and Giuliana Rancic, Michael Castner (pictured) was a go-to red carpet guy at E! Entertainment Television. In the ’90s and early 2000s, he ran the gamut, from the Grammys and Golden Globes to the Oscars.

What a difference a decade makes. After various regional radio stints, Castner is set next month to start hosting “The Daily Wrap from the Wall Street Journal,” a syndicated 6 to 9 p.m. weekday news, talk, and opinion program on the Wall Street Journal Radio Network. He will break down the day’s major stories not just in entertainment but also news, world politics, health, sports, and more. Per the press release:

“My goal for the show is to quickly and informally capture the essence of the day’s top issues,” said Castner. “I’ll be talking with reporters and opinion leaders who will share information and observations. We’ll look for unique details through conversation, not confrontation.”
