Last night Good magazine threw a launch party for their latest issue, and it may have been a last hurrah. How can they publish without a staff? The company has released no statement about the layoffs, just a vague tweet at 7:57 this evening, several hours after the news broke:

The company is on the hunt for full-time staff writers to pump up the volume on its business, design, environment, food, cities, politics and technology coverage for print and online. Do you consider yourself an expert in one of these areas? Keep reading.

As a staff writer, you’ll be responsible for creating, aggregating and editing your content, which includes a potpourri of short items, straight links, slideshows, lists, original reporting, analysis and opinion pieces. You’ll be expected to publish 175-plus posts per month (that’s about 8-9 items per day, people), so you should be full of ideas, and be able to bring a consistent level of enthusiasm to work each day.

To be considered, you’ll need several years of reporting and writing in a breaking news environment for both print and the Web. Amazing that Christina Amanpour had any sort career, drab hag that she is.

And as the CBS publicists made sure to let everyone know, Logan travels with the most important tools of her trade:

her suitcase with bikinis and other beachwear made it to Islamabad; the suitcase with the rest of her clothes did not

But while GOOD’s Sibohan O’Connor is determined to play up Logan’s reporting accumen, she keeps mentioning the eye candy:

It’s like a scene out of Full Metal Jacket, with the addition of the gorgeous and utterly composed Logan.

All this dwelling on Logan’s assets leads one to wonder just how she did get that interview with Pervez Musharraf. Maybe he had his staff dig up some old British tabloids.

GOOD magazine is ramping up their digital branch, with the addition of Craig Shapiro. Shapiro had his own publicist send out the press release, catching the magazine’s reps. a tich off guard. The new endeavor will focus on extending the online presence of the film and magazine groups and create original programming.

Shapiro comes to GOOD from Helio, where he led content strategy and acquisition efforts. Prior to Helio, he served as Vice President at Proteus, a leading developer and publisher of web and mobile content. At Proteus, he spearheaded development of an exclusive partnership with ABC Television to launch their direct-to-consumer mobile portal.

The July/August issue of GOOD hits the streets soon. This issue, the 5th, explores, in the words of the press release:

how our government works, how it works for us, and the people who work for it. The federal government may have its shortcomings, but we must also recognize the men and women who strive to make this country better.

If any of those earnest strivers happen to have government jobs, we think it’s a coincidence, but we’re far more jaded than the people at GOOD.
