Nikki Finke Leaks Oscar Script

Yes, blogger Greg Mitchell has already dubbed it Nikkileaks.

Nikki Finke has got her hands on the play by play of the Academy Awards this Sunday. She writes:

I’ve obtained the annotated schedule for Sunday night’s 83rd Academy Awards show and what’s confirmed at this point looks to be yet another snorefest from the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences airing on ABC and in 200 countries around the globe. Here will be the highlights or lowlights depending on your point of view when it comes to the overly long and usually boring Oscars telecast

Read the entire scoop here.

Update – 02/26/11: As a result of Finke’s actions, the Academy has revoked the Oscar show press credentials of the site’s New York based reporter Michael Fleming.

Neato.

E&P is Back, Kind Of, Top Editors Out

    epclarejeff.png
We were a little premature in our elation yesterday that Editor & Publisher resumed publishing the 126 year old trade. Yes, they are back. But the new E&P is a clone of what existed last month. Editor-in-Chief Greg Mitchell is gone as is Joe Strupp.

The above tweet is from Editor of Mother Jones Clara Jeffery and she sums it up pretty well.

Mitchell’s announced this fact via Twitter:

If you missed last nite: E&P is back but I am out, as is the great @JoeStrupp.

    Joe Strupp tweeted:

E&P is sold, but I am not with it. Not the right fit for me. Weighing other options. See my resume at www.joestrupp.com

We wish Greg and Joe a short job hunt. Bummer.

    E&P in Exile Blog Launches

The next pit stop on the Editor & Publisher saga is a neat little Blogger blog called E&P in Exile.

On the side bar, skimming, we thought it said, “Find Us A Home.” It’s worse than that, it says, “Find Us At Home.” Under which are the names: Greg Mitchell, Shawn Moynihan, Jim Rosenberg, Joe Strupp, Jennifer Saba, Mark Fitzgerald, Reiko Matsuo and Charles McKeown . We wish them all the best of luck.

  • E&P Editor Greg Mitchell: We Are Scheduled to Vacate Thursday

Greg Mitchell, editor of Editor & Publisher just posted an update of the publications status on Huffpo:

Indeed, there has been a lot of interest but no firm news to report as yet. We are scheduled to vacate and shut down for good by the end of Thursday if nothing materializes, though of course E&P could always be brought back a bit later. Stay tuned, contact me here about anything you can do, and thanks again for your backing and kinds words.

  • E&P Editor Greg Mitchell: Stay Tuned

Greg-Mitchell.jpgGreg Mitchell writes on Huffpo that he was expecting the selling of Billboard, The Hollywood Reporter, Adweek to eclipse the closing of E&P. He writes:

Believe me, we were amused, though heartened, to see “Editor & Publisher” (with the correct ampersand, no less) hitting No. 4 on the top Twitter trending topics, and stay in the top 10 most of the day. It must have shocked others, as well, as many tweeted, “WHAT is Editor & Publisher doing in trending topics?”

Best of all, we were swamped with e-mails from longtime fans — some of them household names — who expressed outrage at the sudden closing, offered to send money (or to help us go online), praised our work and said this meant doom for the newspaper industry. I wouldn’t exactly go along with that final prediction, but it was good to hear so many tell us how much they loved us and what a big role we had played in their lives, some going back decades.

He also says there’s a decent chance that someone will step forward and help the publication continue.

Yes, this is what passes for feel good story in the media these days and we’re taking it.

  • LA Times Circulation Down 11.05%

When Editor and Publisher’s Greg Mitchell mentioned on his Twitter feed last night they were going to release the numbers of newspaper circulation decline, we thought,”This is going to be really bad.” But 11.05% for the LAT is really bad, but way better than we figured. So there’s the last bit of our Monday Morning optimism.
