Land $2 Per Word and Up at Inc.

incmagazine.jpgInc., a monthly publication targeting the entrepreneurial community, is currently accepting pitches for all sections. ”We are a magazine about people who are incredibly passionate and have the will to start a business from scratch,” managing editor Alexandra Brez told Mediabistro.

And, before you fire off a pitch with a generic business angle, keep in mind that the pub goes to great lengths to set itself apart from competitors such as Fast Company or Forbes. ”We are different because of our sophistication, as well as our connection to and interest in our community of entrepreneurs,” Brez said. “We are a very likable brand. People are proud to be featured by us.”

‘Citizen McCaw’ To Hit Public Television This Weekend

mcssscover.jpg

Sam Tyler, of Tyler Productions, Inc., wrote us to let us know about this must-see TV broadcast:

I thought you might want to know that despite five letters threatening to sue us (from Wendy McCaw‘s attorney Barry Cappello), we are releasing Citizen McCaw to Public Television. The first broadcast will be on KRCB Channel 22 in the Bay Area this coming Sunday, November 4 at 8 PM. It’s a great time slot.

More PBS stations will carry in 2009. The cover of KRCB’s program guide is attached as is one of Cappello’s letters. We ignored Cappello and have continued to move ahead.

Judge Bans OC Register From Reporting On Its Own Lawsuit

In a case that’s sure to be studied by media law students for years to come, Superior Court Judge David C. Velasquez has “ordered The Orange County Register not to publish any articles about witness testimony in a $100 million class-action lawsuit brought by newspaper delivery workers.”

The judge also fined the paper’s parent company, Freedom Communications, Inc., $23,792.50 for “intentionally and willfully destroy(ing) evidence.”

Of course, we learned about this case in, um, the Orange County Register, so it’s not clear how effective Velasquez’s gag order is going to be — in fact, Register EIC Ken Brusic seems not to have made a decision about whether to defy the judges order and publish witness testimony in reporting about the case.

Jeff Light has been named vice president of Interactive at Orange County Register Communications, Inc., to provide leadership and strategic direction to its interactive content and product development. An announcement regarding this appointment is posted on Rnet.

Light will be partnering with Mike Hodges, the recently appointed vice president of Sales at Freedom Interactive, to align resources and drive interactive growth across Orange County Register Communications and Freedom Communications, Inc.’s network of media properties.”

UPDATE: We’ve heard from our folks on the inside, and, nope, they don’t know what it means either. Oh well. We suppose congratulations are in order. So, congratulations!

Power Of An Alert PR Rep

Varietys_Jorda_14933190_Max.jpg

An exceptionally enterprising PR-type, Meredith Goldblatt, suggested we could capitalize on a certain NY Times story and run a piece about Variety’s “Power of Youth,” a benefit held Saturday at Universal Studios on behalf of St. Jude.

So, yeah, we’ll take the bait.

The benefit brought together the likes of Variety’s VP & Associate Publisher Brian Gott, actress Miley Cyrus, Variety’s President & Publisher Charlie Koones and actress Vanessa Hudgens (all pictured here in this shot by Jordan Strauss of WireImage.com

According to Goldblatt’s release:

The inaugural event is part of Variety’s new initiative to reach out to Hollywood’s next generation of entertainers, in the hopes of encouraging young people to become involved with humanitarian and philanthropic efforts.

And what a youngster-filled event it was: One of the highlights was a celebrity tricycle race.

32456468.jpgMortensen Goes Naked, Arty: A brief history of method acting is described in this piece by Gina Piccalo: “For Eastern Promises, Mortensen set out alone for Moscow, St. Petersburg and the Ural Mountain region of Siberia, spending weeks driving around without a translator. … Mortensen studied the gangs of the vory v zakone (thieves in law). He read books on Russian prison culture and the importance of prison tattoos as criminal resumes. He perfected his character’s Siberian accent and learned lines in Russian, Ukrainian and English. During filming, he used worry beads made in prison from melted-down plastic cigarette lighters and decorated his trailer with copies of Russian icons.” Remind us about this in 10 years, when he’s filming Wild Hogs 2
