James Deen Tells Reporter the New York Times Was ‘Accurate Enough’

There’s a quote to be savored at the half-way mark of Topless Robot editor Luke Y. Thompson‘s article “On the Set of a Sci-Fi Porno.” It was given to LYT by hot young adult (and budding crossover) star James Deen in the midst of the making of Surviving Humanity, a film intended to first be released as an R-rated offering.

Thompson tried (and failed) to get Deen to dish on the actor’s recent The Canyons co-star Lindsay Lohan. But when he brought up that infamous New York Times Magazine piece by Stephan Rodrick, about the movie’s tumultuous production, he fielded this answer:

Deen says only that it’s “accurate enough – it is real-life events reflected in a mirror and retold for dramatic effect. There’s enough in it that’s true that we can’t say it’s not true, but there’s also so much else there than what they described just in that article.”

James Deen Wins ‘Best Male Performer of the Year,’ and Isn’t Retiring from Porn Any Time Soon

Our porn crush James Deen won top honors tonight at the 30th annual AVN Awards at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas, landing the award for Best Male Performer of the Year. He gave his acceptance speech directly to the porn actresses presenting the award, with his back to the audience, and thanked all his female co-stars, as well as the many women he’ll get to work with in the future.

Deen may be a crossover success, starring in the upcoming Bret Easton Ellis film The Canyons with Lindsay Lohan, but porn is clearly his first love. When Sundance rejected The Canyons, Deen said he wasn’t bothered by the snub. “It coincides with AVN. Priorities man!!!!!” Works for us.

It’s awards season, and that means the media indulges in an orgy of award shows to congratulate themselves for their best work from the past year. L.A.’s multi-billion dollar porn industry is no exception, gathering every year in Las Vegas for the AVN awards, a presentation of the adult industry trade AVN (Adult Video News), and commonly known as the “Oscars of porn.”

This fishie happened to be in Vegas this year, so we decided to check it out. And oh, dear lord, what an experience.

It’s so scary in there we’re hiding in the lobby. Without the sweet cushioning of a press pass, we’re tossed in with the fans, an enthusiastic group of fellows all willing to elbow us in the face to get a photo of a porn star.

So far Slash has only been our only celebrity sighting, and his wife shoved her hand in our face when we tried to take a photo. Life lesson: We’d never make it as a papparazzi.

But we’re not giving up, dear readers. We’re gonna head back in and do our best to stalk James Deen.

Porn Star James Deen & Lindsay Lohan to Star in New Bret Easton Ellis Film

Bret Easton Ellis is making the dreams of straight girls the world over come true by putting porn star James Deen on the big screen. Ellis tweeted the news that both Deen and Lindsay Lohan were both set to star in his upcoming flick, The Canyons, an erotic thriller about 20-somethings navigating life in Los Angeles.

The film will be directed by Paul Schrader and produced by former Lionsgate producer Braxton Pope. In an effort to retain creative control the trio are partially funding the film themselves, with the rest coming from a highly successful Kickstarter campaign that raised almost $160k. No doubt some of that dough came from Deen fans eager to see their porno heartthrob make his mainstream film debut.

Our favorite male porn star may just crossover into mainstream film. Bret Easton Ellis has been tweeting about a film script he is writing with James Deen in mind:

Ellis describes the project he’s writing as as an “LA noir micro budget Paul Schrader movie,” and it’s clever of him to want James Deen involved. Deen has a large following of young women, and we’re willing to bet they’d come out in droves to see him in a mainstream film.
