KFC: J.Lo’s Fame Is Finger-Lickin’ Good

kfclogo.jpg

Someone in KFC’s marketing department is getting a raise.

It’s hard — not to mention expensive — to get celebrity endorsements when you’re selling a low-rent product. But lucky for KFC, they found a low-rent star to give them free advertising. And the fried chicken house is giving back.

After Marc Anthony told Access Hollywood that he is a fan of giant greasy buckets of chicken, KFC sent him and Jennifer Lopez an “open letter,” inviting them to host their En Concierto tour after-party at KFC.

The letter is a bit misleading: J. Lo herself is no fan of Kentucky Fried. In fact, the Access Hollywood interview shows her denouncing Anthony’s greasy ways. But that hasn’t stopped the KFC story from taking wing. PETA apparently has even come out to denounce her for her eating habits.

Bravo, KFC marketing department! Britney Spears should have spin doctors as good as you!

Trade Round-Up: August 28

OWEN2.jpegIn the wake of Owen Wilson‘s hospitalization and recovery, Variety does its best to diagnose his slate of upcoming films. New Variety staffer Tatiana Siegel writes that first up, the actor was due to begin shooting a role in “Tropic Thunder” opposite Ben Stiller followed by the January start of “Marley & Me” opposite Jennifer Aniston. He’s also scheduled for promotional activities to support Wes Anderson‘s “The Dareeling Limited,” set for release Sept. 28 from Fox Searchlight.

Variety‘s Michael Fleming writes that Oliver Stone has set his sights on yet another Vietnam project by closing a deal with United Artists to finance “Pinkville.” Pic is a drama about the investigation of the 1968 My Lai massacre. He’ll direct and Bruce Willis and Channing Tatum will star. Stone’s “Born on the Fourth of July” star Tom Cruise now runs UA with partner Paula Wagner.

Jennifer Lopez is also hustling with a new project for the small-screen, teaming up with Jane Startz Prods. to develop “The Amigas Sweet 15 Club,” a half-hour comedy about five Miami teens who run their own Quinceanera party-planning biz.

Innovative Artists has been ripe with a lot of work-related gossip this year from assistant drama to a brand new lawsuit. THR reports that Innovative agents Michael McConnell and Ben Press filed suit Monday in LA demanding that they be allowed to leave the tenpercentery along with their clients due to unfair one-sided employment contracts.

Scott Baio‘s reality run on VH1 with his self-titled TV show has been extended but the new season won’t just find him “45…and Single” but instead a year older and expecting his first child. THR says the new plotline will focus on impending fatherhood following a season finale engagement with girlfriend Renee.

Betty Thomas to Helm Dallas, the Funny Version

dcast.jpeg

William Goldman famously wrote that “in Hollywood, nobody knows anything”. Ain’t it the truth.

Betty Thomas will direct the big screen version of Dallas–as a rib-ticking comedy, with John Travolta as J. R. Ewing. (In which case, why not a musical?) Variety reminds us of previous casting hilarity:

When the movie was derailed late last year, Gurinder Chadha (“Bend It Like Beckham”) was directing. Luke Wilson was attached to play Bobby Ewing with Shirley MacLaine to play Miss Ellie, while producers were talking with Meg Ryan to play Sue Ellen after Jennifer Lopez dropped out.

Meg Ryan = Jennifer Lopez = Linda Gray. Well, they all have lips.

Posh To Start Book Club for Celebrity Wives With Too Much Time on Their Perfectly Manicured Hands

200poshbook,0.jpg

Victoria Beckham, aka Posh, is starting a book club with Katie Holmes and Jennifer Lopez. According to some British tabloid:

Books that Victoria wants to talk about, include Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, Emma and Sense and Sensibility, as well as tomes by literary giants Charles Dickens and Thomas Hardy.

In 2005, Posh told the Daily Telegraph that she reads books despite having said she didn’t.

In 2001, she wrote a book.

So, there’s been a progression of sorts. Remember, Brian Grazer doesn’t read himself, he has someone to do it for him. Who knows where this could lead? Maybe Posh will edit the LA Times?
