Jimmy Kimmel Lands Oprah for Oscars Special

For years now, the most entertaining part of the Oscars has been Jimmy Kimmel‘s post-Academy Awards special.

The ABC late night talk show host landed some serious star power for his seventh special Thursday when the network announced Oprah Winfrey would join Kimmel on Feb. 26.

This should be a change of pace for Winfrey, who is normally doing the interviewing.

Kimmel is the right man behind the desk to make the former talk show giant squirm just a little bit while she promotes her new weekly series on OWN, Oprah’s Next Chapter.

Billy Crystal, Meryl Streep, George Clooney and Martin Scorsese will also join Kimmel and Coldplay will close out the show.

Video: Jimmy Kimmel Strikes Again

It’s only a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt thanks to one of Jimmy Kimmel‘s pranks.

His latest brilliant idea? Getting fans to turn off the TV before the last play of the Super Bowl — a Hail Mary pass by Tom Brady — and recording their reactions.

The results?

Pure gold.

Enjoy.

Jimmy Kimmel Really Doesn’t Like Ponytails on Guys

Local guys with ponytails had to be cringing when the surveillance photo of 24-year-old Hollywood arson suspect Harry Burkhart surfaced earlier this week.

ABC late night host Jimmy Kimmel addressed the topic of men with ponytails during his opening dialogue Tuesday, and of course there was one audience member that was guilty of this hair faux pas.

Thanks to peer pressure from the crowd, Kimmel convinced the guy to let Guillermo cut his ponytail on the spot.

Good choice, my man.

Get Ready for Rocky: The Musical

Today in Hamburg, Germany, Sylvester Stallone gifted Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel and every other late night talk show host with an early Christmas present–the unbeatable set-up of a musical stage version of 1976 Best Picture Rocky. Insert your David Hasselhoff, raw egg and-or “Reeee-fuuuuund!” jokes here.

The show is not due for another year, and bizarrely will world premiere in that same German city. Stallone is teamed on the venture with real-life boxing brothers Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko, plus a whole range of Manhattan minted stage talent. Per the Hollywood Reporter:

Broadway veteran Thomas Meehan (The Producers) will write the script to Rocky: the MusicalRagtime’s Tony-award winning lyricist Lynn Ahrens and composer Stephen Flaherty will re-team for the music, which will include songs from the Rocky films, among them “Eye of the Tiger,” “Gonna Fly Now” and “Take You Back.” Tony Award nominee Alex Timbers will direct.

Thursday is National UnFriend Day, Charlie Brown!

November 17th marks the 2nd annual “National UnFriend Day,” or NUD, a holiday invented by Hollywood’s own Jimmy Kimmel Live. Last night the show took the celebration to a new level with the video below, because as Kimmel himself said, “No holiday is a real holiday until it has it’s own Peanuts special.”

Video: Herman Cain on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Whether you like him or not, Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain held his own Monday night on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Kudos to Jimmy Kimmel for not shying away and asking the tough questions — ranging from the fourth woman coming forward and accusing Cain of sexual harassment to smoking pot.

Herman Cain Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

I hope Herman Cain has a great sense of humor because the Republican presidential candidate will be a guest on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! Monday night.

Jimmy Kimmel will speak to Cain just hours after a fourth woman, Sharon Bialek, came forward this morning and said the former Godfather’s Pizza CEO allegedly tried to reach for her genitals and pulled her head towards his crotch in 1997.

Be easy on him, Jimmy.

Jimmy Kimmel’s Tearful Tribute to ‘Crazy Uncle Frank’

Jimmy Kimmel was reduced to tears Tuesday night as he introduced a touching video montage of his Uncle Frank. Frank Potenza, a regular cast member on Jimmy Kimmel Live, passed away in August from cancer. He was 77.

Oscar Watcher Predicts: Ben Stiller Will Host Next Show

We like Sasha Stone‘s way of thinking. In reaction to the latest wave of media speculation about Billy Crystal returning for a ninth turn as Oscar show host, the AwardsDaily.com maven instead has her money on another, younger, more logical star:

Somehow I doubt if they’re going to all the trouble to hire the presumed “young and hip” Brett Ratner to produce, it seems unlikely they will veer off that path and head into more traditional waters with Crystal.  More likely, Ben Stiller is the one they’ll get to host.  Stiller is starring in Ratner’s upcoming Tower Heist.  I have my money on Stiller hosting.

Charting the Success of Dan Patrick and ‘The Danettes’

Despite the fact that Howard Stern has built an empire around the daily rote of interacting on-air with a colorful bunch of studio workmates, Dan Patrick met with resistance when he first pitched a similar radio show format after leaving ESPN in 2007.

As he tells Joe Flint of the LA Times, his new bosses were none too thrilled with the idea, but he held firm and today, his daily joshing with the “Danettes” – executive producers Paul Pabst and Todd Fritz, operations director Patrick “Seton” O’Connor, and Sports Illustrated blogger Andrew “McLovin” Perloff — is a key reason why the program has amassed a combined weekly radio, TV, and online audience of around 2.5 million. Patrick shares an interesting Hollywood comparison for his “Man Cave” ministrations:

“I don’t like it to be labeled a sports show,” Patrick said. “We’ve created almost a Truman Show, where you’re looking into this little world we’ve created, and we let you look in, warts and all.”
