Radio Host Chris Carter Cuts the John Lennon Birthday Cake

As he normally does, Chris Carter – host of weekly KLOS-FM program Breakfast with the Beatles – cut the cake at Tuesday’s birthday party held posthumously for John Lennon at the Beatle’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Nita Lelyveld of the LA Times was there in front of the Capitol Records building to chat with some of the 50 or so attendees.

Carter’s show archives also provide a worthy reference from the band mate who knew Lennon best – Paul McCartney. During a recent phone conversation, McCartney had this to say:

“An interviewer asked me about whether I ever sort think about John when I’m writing songs. I think it came out a little like I was holding seances with him every day, which isn’t true. But obviously having worked with John for so long, if I’m at a point on a song wondering where to go, it’s an obvious thing for me to think, ‘Well if I was working with John, what would he say?’

Yoko Ono to Introduce MTV’s Steve Jobs Tribute

MTV has tapped artist Yoko Ono to introduce their music tribute to Apple co-founder Steve Jobs at the second annual O Music Awards Monday night.

Ono will speak about her late husband, John Lennon, and Jobs, before the Flaming Lips take the stage to perform “Revolution.”

“Like John Lennon, the man I love deeply, Steve Jobs was a dreamer who changed the world,” Ono is expected to say during the award show at an undisclosed Los Angeles location, according to Billboard. “But of course when we lose a genius of that caliber, they are never really gone. They live on all around us, through our memories, their words, and their work. Their spirit grows in us forever to the end of the days.”

Move Over Lorena Bobbit, Here Comes Catherine Kieu Becker

Good news everyone. The West Coast has its own psychotic, penis-cutting scorned wife. No longer will we have to sit silent at East Coast cocktail parties when the subject of Lorena Bobbit comes up. According to the LA Times, 48-year-old Catherine Kieu Becker told Garden Grove police she drugged her husband, tied him to the bed and cut his penis off. She said he “deserved” it and spoke no more.

From the Times:

The victim, who was not identified, told detectives that Becker made him dinner, but he believed something was wrong with his food. He went to lie down and when he woke up he found himself tied to the bed, with his wife tugging his clothes off, he said. She then allegedly cut off his penis and threw it in the garbage disposal.

No word yet on whether or not she actually turned on the disposal. All joking aside, this is the most horrendous thing we’ve heard since we learned John Lennon was a closet Reagan fan.

Imagine: John Lennon a Reagan Fan

Just read quite possibly the most horrendous story of the decade in the LA Times. Get this: John Lennon‘s former personal assistant Fred Seaman says Lennon was a Ronald Reagan fan who would have voted for the Gipper if he was able.

“John, basically, made it very clear that if he were an American he would vote for Reagan because he was really sour on Jimmy Carter,” Seaman told Seth Swirsky, who is making a film about the Fab Four.

Seaman said the guitarist “met Reagan back, I think, in the ’70s at some sporting event.”

So This is Christmas…

We’re mostly off for the rest of the week because there is this big ol’ holiday…you may have heard something about it…it’s been all over the television.

Anyway, we’re posting this new cut of John Lennon footage with the song “Happy Xmas (War is Over)”. Because, well, we want you to snot all over yourself like we did when we watched it.

Happy Holidays!

Drudge vs. Wonkette – The Ashley Todd Debacle

Ashley Todd is a 20 year old McCain/Palin volunteer from Texas.

She claimed that a tall black man mugged her at an ATM, then saw her McCain/Palin bumper sticker and went into a rage and superfically scratched her face with a backwards ‘B’. She then said she was also sexually assaulted and lost consciousness.

So Drudge called it ‘mutilation’ in big banner in red. Poor McCain volunteer viciously attacked by black man matching Democratic candidate general description.

Wiener & Pals Recall the Good Old Days at the LA Weekly—It’s All Jill Stewart’s Fault

3227_mt_rushmore copy8.jpg

In The Nation, Jon Wiener, the UCI prof and John Lennon expert, bewails the new era or rather the passing of the old era at the LA Weekly. He has reinforcements from Tim Rutten, Kevin Roderick, and Harold Meyerson, and to summarize: it’s all Jill Stewart’s fault.

Matt Welch, on book leave from the LAT, isn’t so sure about that or most of Wiener’s other assumptions. Bob Norman makes the point in a letter to Romanesko.

Wiener emailed Jill Stewart a pretty general question in March:

My basic question: the departure of Harold and your arrival seem to signal a major political shift in the paper. Is this correct?

And Stewart replied:
