The Advocate Sends Andrew Harmon to Washington

The Advocate has made another internal promotion. Days after announcing Matthew Breen would be taking over for Jon Barrett as editor-in-chief, the mag is promoting senior editor Andrew Harmon to become its Washington correspondent/news director.

Says Breen of Harmon: “As senior news editor, he worked closely with former Washington correspondent Kerry Eleveld, and there is no question that Andrew is the ideal choice to continue The Advocate’s political and news reporting on the White House and Capitol Hill.”

The Advocate Quickly Fills Open Editor-in-Chief Spot

Only days after the departure of former editor-in-chief Jon Barrett, who left to become Entertainment Weekly‘s new LA bureau chief, Pink Paper is reporting that The Advocate has already filled Barrett’s open spot. Matthew Breen has been promoted as the new editor-in-chief of the mag. Breen was formerly The Advocate‘s executive editor and has been with the mag’s parent company Here Media for quite some time. Prior to his tenure at The Advocate he was executive editor of Here Media‘s Out magazine.

Entertainment Weekly Hires New LA Bureau Chief

Jon Barrett has just been hired as Entertainment Weekly‘s new LA bureau chief, managing editor Jess Cagle announced to staff today. Barrett comes over to EW from The Advocate, where he had been editor-in-chief for the past three years. Back in 2009, he also collaborated with Matthew Shepard‘s mother Judy on the book The Meaning of Matthew.

Barrett officially starts his new gig April 4.
