There have been too many Dave Chappelle Twitter sightings in recent years to count. All turned out fake. Including the one who got into it with comedian Katt Williams last year. But now it looks like it’s official: Dave Chappelle is on Twitter. Even though his account remains officially unverified, Chappelle’s old writing partner Neal Brennan tweeted the news.

Ashton Kutcher has made a terrible mistake.

We are reminded of something Katt Williams once said while refusing to apologize for controversial remarks: “The only thing I sell is uncensored thought.” It was uncensored thought that helped earn Kutcher over eight million Twitter followers, not carefully edited and crafted posts. The authenticity of his online presence was part of the appeal. It offered the public a level of accessibility to celebrity that was unprecedented, and his embrace of the medium was frankly pretty ballsy.

Although Nikki Finke fanned the flames with a Saturday evening item on Deadline.com, the ultimate props for breaking the news of Eddie Murphy‘s selection as host of the 84th Annual Academy Awards belong to The Humor Mill magazine.

The five-year-old LA digital publication, which sometimes prints a run of hard copies for marketing and newsstand splash purposes, is earning well-deserved recognition today for revealing the Murphy selection Saturday afternoon. Magazine founder Frank Holder ranks the Oscar scoop right up there with a pair of previous widely picked up items about actor-comedian Katt Williams.

“The urban comedy community is really small,” Holder tells FishbowlLA via telephone. “This thing [about Murphy] has been floating around since July, I just hadn’t put it out there. My contacts asked me not to say anything until it was close to being made official. I only wish I had published the story Friday instead of Saturday.”

Five-year-old LA firm Salient Media is adding another performer to its comedy roster: east coast based Punchline magazine.

Editor-in-chief of Punchline Dylan P. Gadino explains that as part of the deal, his publication’s website will be relaunching next week under a new name: Laughspin. But the content will remain the same, along the lines of the current interview piece with Greg Proops about the comedian’s entry into the world of podcasts with “The World’s Smartest Man:”

During the relaunch process, I decided that as much as I love the name Punchline magazine, it was time for a change. I wanted a new name–something wholly singular, fun and appropriate. I also wanted to lose “magazine,” since, in these ever-evolving technological times, that word is quickly losing its value. It also might not best explain some of the other comedy endeavors we have planned. More on that later.
