Gossip Cop Takes Another Shot at Jay Penske’s HollywoodLife

It’s not usually a good thing when an outlet gets the “zero” rating on gossipcop.com’s rumor-to-truth left-margin thermometer graph. That was the case this morning with Bonnie Fuller‘s HollywoodLife or, as Gossip Cop deems the outlet, “Jay Penske‘s Webloid.”

Chief cop Michael Lewittes has been all over this particular news trail since Day One. He links to a head-spinning number of HollywoodLife items about an alleged Down Under “trial separation” between Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. Lewittes claims the entire coverage block was erroneous:

It was sad, really, watching HollywoodLies — er, HollywoodLife — try to cover up its previous misrepresentations with increasingly desperate “reports” that bore no resemblance to reality.

Through it all, Gossip Cop correctly said that nothing had changed between Pattinson and Stewart, and predicted that when Pattinson returned to California, he and Stewart would make HollywoodLife look foolish. Sure enough, that’s exactly what happened.

Mr. Skin Goes Meta with Californication Kudo

Yes, we know – the Top 10 Celebrity Nude Scenes of 2012 announced this week by the Chicago connoisseurs who run mrskin.com is not typically the kind of thing we cover at FishbowlLA. But #9 on this year’s list was too meta to pass up.

The scene in question, from Californication episode “At the Movies,” is all about an attractive Hollywood actress (Sarah Power) well aware that she has been hired because of her willingness to show her breasts in a movie. What makes the scene doubly meta is that when she nervously flashes her upper-body assets to screenwriter Hank (David Duchovny) in his trailer ahead of her nude scene, he ends his praise with: “… and nab yourself a Mr. Skin Award in the bargain.”

Twilight Finale Generates Usual Array of Critic Objections

Here’s one of our favorite ways to use Rotten Tomatoes:

1) Click into the main page for a new movie;
2) Sort the amalgamated reviews by “Rotten” first;
3) Scroll and read what the “Top Critic”-rated journalists on the stink-side are saying.

Just about all of the Team Rotten reviewers admit that Breaking Dawn – Part 2 will greatly please the franchise’s hardcore fans. Still, critics in this group can’t help but also highlight some of the inherent problems:

Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune:
“With so many scenes of well-dressed vampires sitting or standing, stiffly, while Taylor Lautner or Robert Pattinson or Kristen Stewart passes another micro-slab of dialogue like a kidney stone, Michael Sheen’s overacting’s greatly appreciated, thanks.”

Roger Ebert:
“The depiction of little Renesmee is rather curious… Her grandfather Charlie Swan (Billy Burke) observes, “My, how you’ve grown! You must be six inches taller!” And so she seems, although by my reckoning, it happened between Thanksgiving and Christmas. A human child like that, you take to see a specialist.”

Bonnie Fuller Chastises the Kristen Stewart-Robert Pattinson Haters

For the briefest of moments last week, the New York Post had Bonnie Fuller in the running for the position of Variety EIC. A wacky rumor that was quickly quashed by Jay Penske during his October 10 town hall meeting with trade staffers.

A week later, it’s back to hyperbole-as-usual for Fuller at her PMC sister site hollywoodlife.com. In her latest “Bonnie Says!” piece, she writes:

Many media outlets and critics trash the VERY real love that Rob and K-Stew have… Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are one of the greatest Hollywood couples ever.

Marc Malkin Disputes THR’s Kristen Stewart-Snow White Item*

Just a few hours tonight after Kim Masters and Borys Kit filed a story for The Hollywood Reporter indicating that Kristen Stewart has been dropped from Universal’s Snow White and the Hunstman sequel plans, Marc Malkin over at E! News begs to differ.

Tying to an earlier item he wrote about Stewart in late May, Malkin insists the actress was never contractually committed to a SWATH sequel. Therefore, he argues, she cannot be “dropped” from the nascent follow-up:

Contrary to a report, Stewart has not been dropped from Universal’s planned Snow White and the Huntsman sequel because the concept is being retooled to focus on Chris Hemsworth’s Huntsman.

Rather, she was never officially attached to one to begin with. (And, for that matter, neither is Hemsworth, as yet.) What’s true is that a new writer is being brought in to replace the first film’s scribe, David Koepp, sources confirmed to E! News Tuesday.

Stewart, Sanders and the Double-Edged Acronym SWATH

The expression “to cut a swath” means to make a pretentious display, to attract attention. It’s a perfect description of some recently photographed behavior on an LA hiking trail involving director Rupert Sanders and actress Kristen Stewart.

SWATH also happens to be the handy abbreviation being used by the celeb media to refer to the movie that brought these two scandalous lovebirds together. That’s right. Sanders and Stewart cut a swath in and around him yelling “cut!” on the set of Snow White and the Huntsman.

Everywhere we look this morning, there are article mentions of SWATH director this and SWATH set that. It all adds up to some rather bittersweet etymological echoing.

From a Drug-Infested Texas Radio Station to the Hollywood Red Carpet

Fox Latino has a good profile today of Jovanny Venegas (pictured), a 28-year-old actor and freelance TV journalist who came to LA from central Texas.

His career began very colorfully at age 15 as a DJ in the Lone Star State, working at a station where the owner was dealing drugs and once got stabbed. The bilingual go-getter’s acting career is now starting to pick up steam here in Hollywood with roles in K-11, a prison drama directed by Kristen Stewart’s mother Jules, the Fuse TV pilot The Hustle and indie drama Fifth Street.

Venegas says that as a reporter covering the red carpet, he sometimes brought relatives to the events he was covering to let them soak in the Hollywood atmosphere. At one such event, this led to a classic “mom” moment:

“After I finished my interview with Sandra Bullock, I was like ‘Where’s my mom?’ I couldn’t find her,” he recalled. Finally, he spotted her. “I was like ‘Mom, where were you?’

Fans Debate Scandalous Us Weekly Kristen Stewart Cover Shot*

Across the Internet, commenters have descended tonight on the websites of Us Weekly, People magazine and gossipcop.com to furiously debate the poor-quality inset shot featured on the cover of this week’s edition of Us. The ear-less bottom-right snap allegedly depicts actress Kristen Stewart in the arms of her Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, part of a July 17 “marathon makeout session” the mag is promising to blow the lid off in its Friday print edition.

Many fans of the Twilight saga are convinced the inset photo is heavily Photoshopped. At one point, a rumor raced across Twitter that the director’s wife, Liberty Ross, had confirmed via Australian radio that the image was a modified version of her.

Snow White, Still a Journalist at Heart

Reuters reporter-editor Zorianna Kit has a nice junket interview profile of Lily Collins, the first of this year’s pair of Hollywood studio Snow Whites.

The British born 23-year-old star of Mirror, Mirror (and daughter of pop superstar Phil Collins) told Kit that back in 2008, she was well on her way to becoming a journalist. In addition to getting published in Elle Girl and Seventeen magazines, she covered the U.S. presidential election for Nickelodeon. Collins enrolled in broadcast journalism and communications at USC, only to have a role in The Blind Side thwart those plans:

Collins had to decide between school and acting when she found herself shooting The Blind Side in Atlanta and flying back to LA for exams. She has since deferred her schooling but plans on returning… No matter what happens with school, Collins said she’ll always be a journalist even as her acting career grows.

Gossip Cop Patrols Breaking Dawn Beat

It’s been a busy couple of Twilight-tracking days for Michael Lewittes, the former Access Hollywood and Us Weekly veteran who now runs GossipCop.com, a website determined to “Bust Bad Dish.”

First up was the Us Weekly-HollywoodLife.com report that an LA bar fight had almost broken out between Robert Pattinson and actor Jason Statham over the former’s onscreen and off screen love interest, Kristen Stewart. Not so, explained Gossip Cop over the weekend, pointing out that neither actor has been in L.A. for some time now.

Then came another R-Patz item to be debunked yesterday: a report by British tabloid The Daily Star that Pattinson and Stewart had gotten a little too romantic on a beach in Brazil, forcing authorities to intervene.
