Forbes Adds Another Blog: Letter from L.A.

Under the watchful eye of Lewis Dvorkin, the Forbes blog network has grown to a gargantuan size. Today, yet another flavor has been added, with veteran journalist David Hochman at the helm. It’s called Letter from L.A. Check out today’s clever introductory lede:

On a trip abroad recently, someone asked me to describe Los Angeles. Without hesitating, out came a sentiment I’d always felt but never quite put into words: “It’s an awful place to visit,” I said, “but you’d definitely want to live there.”

Ha ha. Hochman is also opening up item #1 to readers, asking people to chime in via the comments with their three favorite things about the city. He got things rolling by sharing his picks:

1. Sundays on the big lawn at Will Rogers State Park in Pacific Palisades.
2. The latte art “swans” at Urth Cafe.
3. The undying spirit that anything is possible.

Jay Leno’s Garage Powers ForbesLife Relaunch

Luxury monthly insert ForbesLife is relaunching this week and is also being made available as a standalone publication on newsstands in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and New York for the purchase price of $6.99. Among the April 2012 rollout issue features is “Temple of Zoom,” for which reporter Hannah Elliott visited talk show host Jay Leno’s spotless Burbank garage warehouse complex.

The magazine is also available for Nook, iPad and Kindle, featuring a redesign conceived by Robert Priest and his associate Grace Lee. Other articles in the April issue include a look at the Bel Air home of billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk and an account of a special private railcar train ride taken with Paul Mitchell-Patrón Tequila co-founder John Paul DeJoria.

Getting the Skinny on Forbes‘ Blog Plans

Last night, FishbowlLA attended a swanky bash at Drai’s in Hollywood thrown by Forbes magazine. In honor of the newest Celebrity 100 list and cover story “The New Celebrity Money Makers,” the publication handed out fancy crystal trophies to several members of Tinseltown’s entrepreneurial elite: Bethenny Frankel, Gene Simmons, Khloe Kardashian and DumbDumb.com, the Internet content project of actors Will Arnett and Jason Bateman. (Ben Silverman accepted on behalf of the absent DumbDumb duo.)

One of the first people we ran into was Lewis D’Vorkin, Forbes‘ Chief Product Officer and formerly of Tru/Slant. He told us that Forbes.com currently has an astonishing 700 bloggers and that the plan is to up that total to 900 by the end of the year.

Forbes Aquires True/Slant

The little blog that actually pays writers a little – True/Slant is becoming a part of a bigger media thingy.

Two-thirds of our editorial staff here at FBLA have True/Slant pages and we have no idea what this means.
