America’s Most Wanted to Feature Gavin Smith

It’s been over four months since Fox executive Gavin Smith mysteriously disappeared. America’s Most Wanted will do their part to help find the 57-year-old by airing a feature on the Lifetime crime show, according to The Hollywood Reporter:

The episode of Lifetime’s venerable crime news program will air in early- to mid-October, according to Angeline Hartmann, who is producing the segment for AMW. Hartmann says that the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which has revealed little about its investigation, is participating in the making of the feature.

“The sheriff’s office has not really spoken out in detail publicly about this case, but the good news is we are dealing directly with the investigators assigned to the case — they are ready to talk a little bit more about it,” says Hartmann, adding that AMW is still conducting interviews and researching the disappearance of the studio exec.

Smith, a former UCLA basketball player, was last seen at his friend’s house on May 1 in Oak Park.

Lifetime Student Film Winners

StudentFilmmakerComp.jpg

Lifetime selected two winners in their Student Filmmaker Competition.

Liliana Greenfield-Sanders won first place for Anna, about a young woman who struggles to connect with the people she encounters in the East Village of New York City. She’s also a “student film maker” in that she’s at NYU.

Jessica Marie Sutherland, who’s a USC student, made a first-time ever film, Seven Turn, her first-ever film, is based on Jessica’s memory of her own seventh birthday party, the same day her father died.

Winning honorable mentions are Merilay Fernandez, Columbia, Tess Ortbals, USC, and Lauren M. Wolkstein, Columbia. They will each receive $1,000.

The films will premiere on the network on Tuesday, Dec. 11 and will be available for streaming on lmn.tv. (Check out the Lifetime home page with the chick sneaking the layer cake, complete with diet tips.)

The competition gathered only 70 entries. Maybe there is a dearth of female directors, after all.

Betty.jpg

Betty Cohen is leaving Lifetime after only 2 years, and ABC’s Andrea Wong is rumored to be the leading contender to take her place. Wong’s chief glories have been reality winners, like Dancing with the Stars, et.al.

At the upfronts, Lifetime announced reality shows:

How To Look Good Naked–hosted by Carson Kressley who’s probably seen pictures of women naked, at least.

America’s Psychic Challenge–psychics duke it out. How come they never go to Vegas?

and scripted fare:

And if the predictions come true, the hed can be Write and Wong. We crack ourselves up.
