NHL Hall of Famer and Los Angeles Kings executive Luc Robitaille is making a cameo on Monday’s episode of the CBS hit sitcom How I Met Your Mother.

If you’re like myself and avoid CBS original programming since you aren’t the key demographic (85 and up), above is the clip featuring Robitaille and other famous Canadians (Brandon Walsh alert).

If you had told LA Kings fans last spring that the closest thing to some early December weekend entertainment involving their team would be on the Disney Channel, they would have laughed you right out of Staples. But with the 2011-12 Stanley Cup champions still locked out of any chance to repeat, tonight’s appearance by president of business operations Luc Robitaille on the season premiere of Phineas & Ferb is as good as it gets.

Robitaille plays himself in an episode titled “For Your Ice Only.” He tells nhl.com that he was not familiar with the hugely popular animated show and that this whole thing in fact was the idea of a team colleague:

Robitaille agreed to do it at the urging of his assistant, Kehly Sloane, whose son is a big fan… “When we started planning a hockey-themed episode, we knew we wanted to include a real legend of the sport. Luc just seemed like a natural choice,” said Dan Povenmire, co-creator and executive producer. “I’d heard him several times on the radio and knew he was funny as well. [We're] very glad he said yes.”

Los Angeles lost a legend on Thursday as David Courtney, the voice of the Los Angeles Kings, Clippers and Angels, died at the age of 56.

Outside of his work with the local sports teams, Courtney provided sports and traffic reports for 710 ESPN-KSPN, AM 830 KLAA and 99.9 FM. The cause of death is unknown but his last tweet on Wednesday stated that he was awaiting an angiogram at the hospital.

David was tremendously passionate about the Kings, our fans and the game of hockey. His time with the Kings dates back to the mid 1970s both in our PR office as our public relations director and also with work he did in our video department before he took over full-time Public Announcing duties at the Forum and STAPLES Center. In the arena he was an institution – he was the voice of the Kings – and his work added so much to the live, in-game experience for our fans as it did for the Clippers and Angels as well. Next season would have been David’ 35th year with our franchise, and on behalf of the entire Kings organization and AEG we are incredibly saddened by this news and we send our deepest condolences to his wife Janet and the rest of the Courtney family.
