Mackenzie Phillips Scores Plum Role
Even though actress Mackenzie Phillips filmedĀ Peach, Plum, Pear prior to the release of her scathing fall 2009 memoir High on Arrival, the indie drama is seeing the light of day as her first post-book acting effort. Made and financed by three local women, the road movie recently debuted at the Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival, where it won Best Feature and Best Actress (Alana Masterson).
Phillips plays a kindhearted Nebraska bartender who takes in the two male leads, Jesse and Will, stranded by car trouble on their way from LA to Chicago. The film’s director (Alana Morshead) and screenwriter (Samantha Genovese) connected at Los Angeles Film School, while producer Annelise Dekker, a USC grad, has guided music videos for Anya Marina and The Submarines.
