SoCal Connected Wins Six Golden Mike Awards

Los Angeles – January 23, 2010 – SoCal Connected, KCET’s hard-hitting weekly news program, won six Golden Mike Awards for Best News Public Affairs Program, Best News Special, Best Hard News Reporting, Best Light News Reporting, Best Individual Writing, and Best Original News Commentary.

The awards were announced on Saturday by The Radio & Television News Association of Southern California, which presents the Golden Mike Awards for excellence in broadcast journalism every year.

“SoCal Connected is honored to receive six Golden Mike Awards,” said Bret Marcus, executive producer of SoCal Connected and KCET senior vice president of programming and production. “SoCal Connected is committed to bringing viewers stories that can make a difference in their lives, and we’re proud to be recognized for our efforts.”

KCET’s SoCal Connected Gets 11 LA Area Emmy Nominations

Congrats to KCET!

Los Angeles – July 9, 2009 – KCET, public television for Southern and Central California, earned a total of 11 nominations for the 61st Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards. The station’s award-winning weekly news program, SoCal Connected, received 10
nominations. An additional nomination went to KCET’s 49th Annual Los Angeles County Holiday Celebration.

The winners will be announced at the 61st Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards presentation on Saturday evening, August 29, 2009 at the Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre in North Hollywood.

KCET’s nominations included the categories of Information/Public Affairs Series (more than 50% remote) for SoCal Connected and Education Special for SoCal Connected’s special report about one of the country’s most notorious schools, “Inside Locke High.”
SoCal Connected also received nominations in the categories of Feature Segment, Information Segment, where it swept the entire category, and three non-news categories.
