Blip Partners with My Damn Channel

When we recently spoke with blip.tv CEO Kelly Day, she talked about the competitive landscape. Just a few weeks later, at the turn of her one-year anniversary with the company, she has cleverly tilted that landscape by partnering with My Damn Channel.

The two leading Web series broadcasters are joining forces for new seasons of the My Damn Channel hits Wainy Days and Daddy Knows Best as well as a pair of new original series currently under development. The latter tandem will be shown exclusively for 30 days on the two company websites. And that’s not all. From today’s announcement:

For the first time, select series from the My Damn Channel library (going back to 2007) will be available on Blip, including premium programming never before been seen by the Blip audience… “We want people who love comedy to discover great new shows and share them with their friends, and this partnership helps us do that,” said Day.

LA Comedienne Runs Interview Table

Much of the stand-up comedy world is in Montreal this week for the Just for Laughs festival. FishbowlLA was struck by one particular advance interview, given by LA based comedienne Maria Bamford (pictured).

First off, this gal really knows how to break the interviewer-interviewee ice. Having done her research, Bamford was quick to complement Montreal Gazette deputy managing editor Asmaa Malik on both a recent story about Facebook and the quality of the reporter’s tweets. There’s also this funny observation about the LA Times:

“I’m much more interested in you,” Bamford says, emphasis hers. “How’s it going at The Gazette?”

You mean with the whole “death of newspapers” thing?, I ask.

KCRW to Air Marc Maron’s WTF

No idea how they’re going to pull this off, but KCRW has decided to air 10 episodes of Marc Maron‘s wonderful podcast WTF–which, if for some reason you can’t figure it out, stands for “What the Fuck.” And therein, seemingly, lies the trouble. Maron begins each and every show by saying fuck no less than 12 times, and isn’t shy about using it during his interviews either. Why should he be shy? It’s his podcast.

But the FCC might have something to say about the matter if anything close to an unedited podcast goes over the airwaves. Especially on Sundays at 11AM, which is when KCRW plans to run the program.

The shows KCRW chose to air are all old, so they’ll have plenty of time to scrub them clean. It will be interesting to see what’s left.
