eXiled editors Mark Ames and Yasha Levine were on the Dylan Ratigan Show yesterday, talking about their latest scoop for The Nation. The pair uncovered a series of letters from billionaire libertarian robber baron Charles Koch to the free-market economics guru Friedrich Hayek, urging the latter to come to America and take advantage of America’s generous Social Security and Medicare programs–the same programs that Koch and his brother are now pushing to obliterate for the rest of us.

The letters are an amazing find, revealing once again just how morally and ethically bankrupt the philosophy of the ruling elite truly is.

Basically Big Government’s Joel Pollak, who decided to take on The eXiled last week with a lengthy “expose” into Ames’ libertine past, seems to have just figured out that The eXiled likes to screw with the comments on its site. He posted an “update” to his original story revealing this practice–which the eXiled is quite open about.

Mark Ames of The eXiled has a new online campaign to roll back the taxes of the wealthiest 0.1% Americans to the Eisenhower-era marginal rate of 91%. It’s currently at 35%. And don’t even ask about the capital gains rate for Wall Street. It’s lower than yours, trust us.

Ames is calling the effort RATFOCR. It looks like the RATFOCR website is still in a bit of an infant lull, but knowing Ames’ past work, its only a matter of time before the cannons start firing.

Back in February of 2009, eXiled editors Mark Ames and Yasha Levine wrote a piece for Playboy.com that uncovered the connection between the Tea Party and a previously quiet, shadowy pair of billionaires known as the Koch brothers. Almost immediately after publication, the piece was slammed by the mainstream press and Playboy wound up pulling the piece–although they never ran a correction. More than two years later, after a popular New Yorker piece shed light on the Koch brothers and the full extent of their political undertakings, Ames and Levine are feeling a might peeved about their treatment. The pair went on The Dylan Ratigan Show yesterday to talk about the backlash they received when they initially published the story, and how their reporting has since been vindicated.

Ames also wrote this blistering piece calling out The Atlantic‘s Megan McArdle, among other journalists, who trashed Ames and Levine’s reporting while failing to disclose the full extent of their personal and financial connections to the Koch brothers. Worth the read.

Mark Ames at The eXiled spends a few thousand words tearing apart Jon Stewart‘s “Rally for Sanity”–basically accusing Stewart and the likeminded hundreds of thousands who rallied with him putting on an extended version of the SNL skit “Really!?!” As usual from Ames, a compelling essay brimming with rhetorical arsenic.

Sure there are a lot of problems out there, a lot of pressing needs—but the main thing is, the Liberals don’t look nearly as stupid as the other guys do. And if you don’t know how important that is to this generation, then you won’t understand what’s so wrong and so deeply depressing about the Jon Stewart Rally to Restore Sanity.

The eXiled’s Mark Ames published a lengthy takedown over the weekend of the billionaire Koch brothers’ (who are also the primary financial backers of the Tea Party movement) efforts to create a true-believer libertarian media empire. Ames repeatedly slams the Koch-funded, LA-based magazine Reason, the libertarian think tank Cato Institute, as well as The Atlantic’s Meghan McArdle, who’s husband Peter Suderman works at Reason. But the main focus of Ames’ wrath is former Cato Institute fellow and recent Economist writer Will Wilkinson, who has spent his entire media career under the Koch umbrella, and the last two years since the economic collapse denying the existence of a growing American income inequality between the rich and poor.

Ames describes him thusly:

The biography of Will Wilkinson, like that of just about every member of the libertarian nomenklatura, is so caricatured, so totally devoid of surprises and curve-balls, that you almost have to admire how tightly controlled the Libertarian Assembly Line is–the only equivalent that comes to mind is the Soviet Union’s Communist Party vetting machine: from Young Pioneer to Komsomol to Communist Party member, they constantly vetted, tested and promoted the most useful shills, along with the elite’s children,  to create a power-elite class that lasted 80 years, at the expense of the rest of the suffering country. As an example of just how robotic and predictable the libertarian nomenklatura is, and how similar they are to their old Commie counterparts, guess what thinker changed Will Wilkinson’s life? Actually, don’t try guessing: Ayn Rand, that’s the answer every time, just as Lenin was the answer every time in the Soviet Union.

Wilkinson isn’t exactly a consequential target in and of himself, but the piece is interesting in its analysis of the Koch brothers’ efforts to create a loyal corps of libertarian true believer journos.

As one commenter on The eXiled’s site put it, “If only I read Ayn Rand instead of Hunter Thompson, maybe I could have been a propagandist for the power elite too. Seems it pays better than well read malcontent.”
