Al Franken Wins Senate Seat…Again!

Geez, Norm Coleman, it’s nearly July. How much foot-dragging were you planning on doing?

The Minnesota Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered that Democrat Al Franken be certified as the winner of the state’s long-running Senate race.

The high court rejected a legal challenge from Republican Norm Coleman, whose options for regaining the Senate seat are dwindling.

Justices said Franken is entitled to the election certificate he needs to assume office. With Franken and the usual backing of two independents, Democrats will have a big enough majority to overcome Republican filibusters.

Anyway, the important thing about this – besides a comedian being in the senate instead of the other way around, is election oracle, blogger, Nate Silver was also right about this one.

Stand up comics can do anything. Anything. Even, hopefully, someday exhaust all of Norm Coleman‘s legal options.

Victoria Jackson is a stand up comic. And now we think she should be the voice of the Republican Party.

Another stand up comedian, Marc Maron, after watching this clip of Jackson on Sean Hannity, said, “Give a her 3 hour daily morning show.”

Weigh-In: Seder vs. The Young Turks

The LAT ran a story about an open programming slot on MSNBC (we’d argue it’s the entire weekend line-up – hello Locked Up? – but no one asked us).

From Matea Gold‘s piece:

The grass-roots campaigns were triggered by the news that the cable channel is contemplating creating a new show for its 7 p.m. time slot, currently occupied by a repeat of “Countdown With Keith Olbermann.” That prompted the launch of independent Facebook groups extolling the merits of two radio hosts: Cenk Uygur of the Internet show “The Young Turks” and Sam Seder of Air America.

We’re torn. We like that Cenk Uygur and crew are local yokels. The internet show is filmed on Miracle Mile. Of course, Sam Seder is a comic. We will always be on the side that hooks up any comedian with full-time employment. Sorry Norm Coleman, you never had a chance with us.

Al Franken looks to the winner of the in Minnesota senate race with Norm Coleman.

And yes, Nate Silver predicted as much.

Well, it’s about time a comedian could parlay those skills to gainful employment – or at least a decent health care plan. Yay dental!

Anyway, incumbents need to watch their backs – this starts a scary precedent – they could get usurped by Fran Drescher or Carrot Top. But more likely Carrot Top.
