Scott Olsen Out of Hospital & on Google+

The former U.S. Marine and Occupy Oakland protester injured by police has released his first public statement, via social networking site Google+:

I’m feeling a lot better, with a long road in front of me. After my freedom of speech was quite literally taken from me, my speech is coming back but I’ve got a lot of work to do with rehab. Thank you for all your support, it has meant the world to me. You’ll be hearing more from me in the near future and soon enough we’ll see you in our streets!

Olsen was finally able to leave the hospital over the weekend, where he has been suffering a skull fracture during a police raid in late October. Olsen suffered bruising to the part of his brain that controls speech, and since has had difficulty speaking. Doctors are optimistic that he will recover fully from the injury.

NY Times Biased Against Wall Street Protesters?

The NY Times is being called out for a somewhat slanted re-write of the lede to an article about the arrest of “Occupy Wall Street” protesters. The image below has gone viral on social media sites:

In fairness to the paper, the story in question, which has since been updated and gained another byline, is reasonably balanced.

Los Angeles held a sister protest downtown on Saturday. The LA Times covered the “Occupy LA” march with a story and slideshow.
