Utah’s Allred family, as referenced in Nicholas Riccardi’s mining tragedy story in the LAT, is a very large clan in the state. Some members–like Owen Allred, profiled by Charlie LeDuff and Rulon Allred, were polygamists. While this bit of history doesn’t have a place in a story about the toll the mines have taken on the family, it would have made an interesting sidebar.
