Sarah Palin at the Beverly Hilton Alongside a Monkey? You Betcha!

Canadian journo Bill Brioux is not alone. Although TV critics have taken in some odd sights over the years at the TCA Winter and Summer sessions, last night’s poolside NBC party at the Beverly Hilton had them buzzing on Twitter about a possible new watershed.

Blogs Brioux this morning:

These bleary eyes have seen strange sights but the strangest I ever did see, was the night Sarah Palin stole the show from a monkey and NBC.

And I’ve seen some strange sights. I’ve seen grown men struggle to get a usable quote from Ozzy Osbourne. I’ve seen Jay Leno, disguised as a reporter, gooning the head of his own network. I’ve seen Lifetime attempt to impose a cash bar. Tuesday night’s NBC cocktail reception may go down as the oddest press tour sight of them all.

Jack Osbourne Diagnosed With Multiple Sclerosis

The reality TV star and celebrity progeny revealed the recent diagnosis via interviews with People and the U.K. magazine Hello!. Osbourne received the news last month, just a few weeks after the birth of his first child. “The timing was so bad,” the 26-year-old told Hello!. The magazine also interviewed Jack’s parents:

“I keep thinking: ‘What did I do wrong? What did I eat or drink when I was pregnant? I feel like it’s somehow my fault”, Sharon says, fighting back tears. Ozzy admits to feeling angered by the news that his youngest son has the condition.

“If it was me, you’d think: ‘Ozzy had a reputation and it caught up with him’, but Jack is such a good guy”, the rock singer says.

The silver lining to this lousy news is that someone of Jack Osbourne’s celebrity status has the potential to bring more awareness to multiple sclerosis, and maybe even raise funds for research. There’s still no known cure. An estimated 10,000 Americans are diagnosed with MS every year.

LA Media Sully Jack Sparrow’s Good Name

It was a quintessential LA story. Late yesterday afternoon, media outlets including the LA Times and KTLA quickly picked up an LAPD alert of a fight between several Hollywood Blvd. superhero characters. Catwoman was said to have pepper sprayed Jack Sparrow, with an alien and another pirate also involved in the fracass.

Only the victim wasn’t a Sparrow. After several hours of insane Twitter pick-up on this news, activity that pushed “Jack Sparrow” up the LA trending topics list, NBCLA reporters Samantha Tata and Kim Baldonado revealed that the target of an exasperated, harassed Catwoman was in fact an Ozzy Osbourne impersonator.

Should Ozzie be insulted that his likeness was mistaken for Captain Jack? Might Johnny Depp consider biting off the head of scurvy rat in a fifth Pirates flick, as a wink-wink? That’s all tbd. But in the meantime, even though Tata and Baldonado had Sparrow in their original report (since updated), theirs was the only initial dispatch that had otherwise accurate info about the exact sequence of events. As opposed to the increasingly embellished misinformation being spread last night via social media.
