Looking to make a splash in his Showtime debut, Jim Rome is digging deep in his athlete and celebrity Rolodex for the one-hour premiere of Jim Rome on Showtime.

Kobe Bryant, Aaron Rodgers, Matthew Perry and Peter Guber will all sit down with Rome on Wednesday to discuss a wide variety of topics within the sports and entertainment industry.

Not bad, Rome. Not bad.

He will complete his move to the CBS family when his nationally syndicated radio show makes the move to CBS Radio starting in January.

Magic Johnson’s Group Buys Dodgers for $2 Billion

Do you believe in Magic?

Magic Johnson‘s bidding group reached a deal to purchase the Los Angeles Dodgers and Dodger Stadium from Frank McCourt for a whopping $2 billion — the highest amount ever paid for a sports franchise. Bankruptcy judge Kevin Gross is expected to approve of the deal on April 13, a little over two weeks before McCourt must pay his ex-wife Jamie $131 million as part of their divorce settlement.

Guggenheim Baseball Management LLC are the official owners, which include Johnson, Mark R. Walter, Peter Guber, Stan Kasten, Bobby Patton and Todd Boehly. The controlling owner is Walter, chief executive officer of the financial services company. Kasten, the former president of the Washington Nationals and Atlanta Braves, is expected to run the day-to-day operations.

Nerdist Industries, parent co. of Nerdist.com and the brainchild of sometimes Chelsea Lately panelist Chris Hardwick, announced today that it has entered into an equity partnership with subscriber newsletter outfit GeekChicDaily. The influx of cash into Nerdist will go towards marketing, infrastructure, and new hires. Per this morning’s press release:

Nerdist.com’s comedy/pop culture podcast was recently named as one of the top 10 best comedy podcasts by Rolling Stone and sold as a television show to BBC America. As of yesterday, the LA version of GeekChicDaily.com’s daily email newsletter is up and blasting. The company — backed by such heavyweights as Peter Guber, Bob Pittman, and Joe Roth — also threw itself a little shindig Thursday night at Meltdown Comics on Sunset Boulevard.

In today’s mirrored website posting, the LA folks ponder potential Fantastic Four kill-off scenarios. For Jessica Alba‘s character, they suggest “forcing Sue Storm’s alter-ego to sit through a screening of The Love Guru. Death by embarrassment.”

Motown Tries to Make Sense of Prospective Pistons Owner

Peter Guber may soon have a Hollywood hardwood doppelganger. Joining the Golden State Warriors co-owner within the NBA team owner ranks will soon be, by all accounts, Platinum Equity billionaire Tom Gores (pictured).

In honor of today’s second biggest sports story (behind the forced retirement of Manny Ramirez), the Detroit Free Press has republished a February 13th profile of Gores by sports reporter Vince Ellis. It offers some interesting hints as to how the LA magnate may be perceived in Motown as proprietor of the Pistons:

Streisand-Ex Peters May Be Headed To Hoosgow

Jon Peters, the hairdresser-turned-producer who went on to co-chair Sony Pictures Entertainment with Peter Guber, may be headed for a small stint in jail, Page Six reports.

The Hollywood powerhouse behind “Superman Returns,” “Batman” and “Ali” is charged with multiple violations of his parole stemming from a drunk-driving plea. The Ventura County district attorney’s office says Peters is due in court on Jan. 16 to answer charges he failed to complete an alcohol-education program, or report to his probation officer, or complete community service.

What’s more, sources say, a document submitted by the four-times-divorced filmmaker is being examined for alleged forgery, as it shows he did a required 40 hours of community service – when he had really finished only four hours.

Peters pleaded no contest to DUI after dozing off on the 101 Freeway in Ventura on Feb. 11, 2006. He agreed to a sentence of three years probation and community service with Homeboy Industries, which helps ex-gang members go straight.

“[A] proof of completion was submitted to the court,” the source told Page Six. “When the charity was asked to confirm Jon had completed 40 hours by the deadline, they confirmed he had only done four . . . [The] Probation [department] has threatened to revoke his probation.” Homeboy Industries did not return repeated calls. A rep for Peters had no comment.

If Peters is found guilty of parole violation, he could be sent to jail.

It’s the latest legal woe for the onetime boyfriend of Barbra Streisand. He’s also being sued by two former female staffers who claim Peters sexually harassed them. In one, Blanca Hernandez claims Peters touched her breasts and buttocks, tried to push her onto his bed when he was naked, tried to kiss her breasts, and offered her money for sex. Peters denies the charges.
