Wow, big morning for disgraced former CNN hosts on “Good Morning America.” First Rick Sanchez went on, plastic smile and all, subtly trying to get his job back (TVNewser has the video). Then the show landed Lou Dobbs to defend himself from charges that illegal immigrants tended to his horses and palatial New Jersey grounds. Dobbs denies ever personally hiring illegal immigrants, which the magazine The Nation, who broke the story about Dobbs, never accused him of.

“I am saying that for years, undocumented immigrants looked after your show jumping horses, and for years, they looked after the grounds at your West Palm Beach estate in Florida. This article is fact-checked 100 percent. It is legally vetted,”Isabel MacDonald, author of the piece, said on Dobbs’ show yesterday. MacDonald also said the illegal vs. legal issue is almost a distraction–the real issue is that the workers were underpaid and treated poorly.

Dobbs later said on Good Morning America that to run background checks on everyone who worked his property would be tantamount to “racial profiling.” Which is either complete bullshit, or Dobbs is running a plantation colony out there in New Jersey. How many people does he have working for him anyway?

Former CNN host Rick Sanchez went on “Good Morning America” this morning to formally apologize to Jon Stewart and to subtly try to get his job back at CNN. “If CNN ever takes me back I’d be happy to go back.”

He also plugs the hell out of his book.

Sanchez was canned last week for calling Stewart a “bigot” and suggesting a cabal of mean-spirited Jews like him run the media. This was Sanchez’s first TV interview since he lost his job. His wife previously Facebooked that Rick was super-sorry about the whole bigoted-Jews-run-the-media thing.

With no show on Friday, last night Jon Stewart finally got the chance to respond to CNN’s Rick Sanchez calling him a bigot, and saying mean Jews like Stewart run the media. Have to say, Stewart was surprisingly restrained. Then again, Sanchez did get fired for his comments, so maybe Stewart just didn’t want to look like a big mean media Jew.

Meanwhile, Sanchez choose the unlikely venue of his wife’s Facebook page to apologize to Stewart.

rick apologized to jon stewart today.they had a good talk. jon was gracious and called rick, “thin-skinned.” he’s right. rick feels horrible that in an effort to make a broader point about the media, his exhaustion from working 14 hr days for 2 mo. straight, caused him to mangle his thought process inartfully. he got caught up in the banter and deeply apologizes to anyone who was offended by his unintended comments.
