PBS Talk Show Host Tavis Smiley Tangles with KFI’s Mo ‘Kelly

In his latest Journal-isms column, Richard Prince retraces some contentious recent chronology involving Tavis Smiley and Mo ‘Kelly (a.k.a. Morris W. O’Kelly, pictured).

Kelly, who once worked for Smiley, has been accusing Smiley of using a national poverty-focused outreach tour as a means of personal grandstanding. The feud went public and got nastier last week when The Wave newspaper’s Betty Pleasant reported that Smiley had sent Kelly a cease-and-desist letter. From Prince’s item:

Smiley publicly remained silent, but the story by Pleasant gained steam as its message was repeated on at least two black-oriented websites, the black entertainment outlet EUR Web and radio host Tom Joyner‘s Black America Web.

Then, on Sunday, EUR Web published an “open letter” to Smiley from Najee Ali, director of Los Angeles-based Project Islamic HOPE (Helping Oppressed People Everywhere), siding with O’Kelly.

The CNN contributor and TV One host has made the transition from a newspaper reporter to an all-around media personality by successfully building his brand.

“When you build your own brand, people will still return your phone calls regardless of the call letters or where you actually work, because they now know you and they trust you in what you have to say and what you’re doing,” said Martin. “That, to me, is the most important aspect when it comes to building your brand.” continued…

With Tim Tebow and the NFL season out of the picture, Jeremy Lin of the New York Knicks is the latest media darling in professional sports.

The Asian-American point guard from Harvard torched the Los Angeles Lakers Friday night, scoring 38 points in a 92-85 victory at Madison Square Garden.

In response to Lin’s great performance, FoxSports.com columnist Jason Whitlock tweeted, “Some lucky lady in NYC is gonna feel a couple of inches of pain tonight.”

Whitlock’s tweet caught the attention of the Asian American Journalists Association, who wrote the following on their Facebook page Saturday night:

FBLA Exclusive: CNN is Auditioning Talent for New Show

According to our CNN source, the “most trusted name in news” is casting for a new Crossfire type of Hannity and Colmes show. Meaning: they’re auditioning liberal personalities and conservative personalities to co-host one show.

Way to really break the mold, CNN.

No word on who or what the show would be replacing or what the name of the show will be (Crossballs is already taken).

A few on the liberal side were Steve A. Smith of ESPN, Cenk Uygur of the Young Turks, Roland Martin who’s already on Campbell Brown‘s show frequently and Errol Louis a CNN contributor.

On the conservative side were radio personalities Roe Conn from Chicago, Joe Watkins from Philadelphia and Steve Malzberg from New Jersey. Plus frequent Glenn Beck fill-in Joe Pagliarulo from Texas.

So we’re guessing they’re looking for two different personalities in two different people to off-set having two in one with Lou Dobbs?
