And the Grammy for Doofus of the Year Goes to…

Following his stage-crash of the Grammys on Sunday, Ukrainian TV correspondent Vitalii Sediuk has told The Hollywood Reporter that the very rude Adele-interrupt was merely a reflection of the fact that he is “a reporter and it was part of my report.” Uh huh.

Sacha Baron Cohen might want to consider a Borat copyright infringement lawsuit. Heck, even the Hollywood Foreign Press Association could take full advantage and release a statement stressing that this guy is not a member.

The First Anchorman 2 Teaser Trailer is Out

Less than two months after Will Ferrell announced that Anchorman 2 was a go, a teaser trailer for the 2013 sequel is ready to go and airing in theaters before The Dictator.

Collider has the details from a source that saw an early screening of the new Sacha Baron Cohen comedy:

“Just got out of a screening of The Dictator. There is an Anchorman 2 teaser attached featuring the Channel 4 news team (minus Veronica) stating how excited they are to return… a concept that Brick seems to have a hard time with. Also, not sure if it was an official title or more of a slogan but the screen title read Anchorman: The Legend Continues followed by ’2013′”

Actress Christina Applegate is still on the bubble for the project. When the teaser eventually leaks, we will pass it along so you can save your $12 and not sit through 83 minutes of The Dictator.

The Dictator Asks: Where Are Wadiya’s Oscar Nominations?

In this morning’s riposte to the “Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Zionists,” Sacha Baron Cohen as The Dictator cranks out the funniest lines yet for his masterful (and way cheaper than a Super Bowl spot) upside-down PR campaign.

After setting an ultimatum of noon PT Sunday for the lifting of his reported Oscars red carpet ban, he goes on to wonder why his country of Wadiya’s excellent entertainments have never been recognized by the Academy. The first movie he mentions is When Harry Kidnapped Sally. From there, it gets better.

Dawn Hudson Quickly Learns That No Academy Meeting is Off the Record

For its final-days Oscars countdown coverage, the Hollywood Reporter scored the first official interview given by new Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences CEO Dawn Hudson. Reporter Stephen Galloway spoke with her on Sunday February 19 together with the organization’s COO Ric Robertson.

When asked what has surprised her most about the job, Hudson offered this answer:

“The scrutiny. I had what I thought was a casual meeting [during] my first couple of days, and 20 minutes after they left the LA Times called me. Then I thought, “OK, no meeting is off the record.” The Academy matters to people around the world. It’s such a global mark. And so the flap of the butterfly wing really does create [a worldwide effect].

Is Michael Jackson Making Trouble for Bruno?

Bruno-Striptease-Riot-Sacha-Baron-cohen-webcastr.jpg
Kim Masters at Daily Beast reports there is a scene in the new Sacha Baron Cohen movie Bruno with La Toya Jackson and a reported Michael Jackson joke.

Masters writes:

Asked whether the studio will alter the film, a Universal executive yesterday shot back with two words: “Too soon.”

This is after the premier of Bruno at the Mann Chinese Theater where the pop icon’s star was under the red carpet and fans were strangely over on Vine at the wrong Michael Jackson’s star.

UPDATE: That scene was taken out of the film reports EW.

  • New Movie, New Lawsuit For Sacha Baron Cohen

1bruno1.jpgBruno, Sacha Baron Cohen‘s latest film, won’t hit theaters till next month. But the lawsuits have already started rolling in. The AP reports:

Richelle Olson sued the 37-year-old actor and NBC Universal on May 22, claiming an incident at a charity bingo tournament that was filmed for the upcoming “Bruno” left her disabled.

Olson claims she was severely injured after struggling with Cohen and his film crew at the event, held in Palmdale, Calif., two years ago. The lawsuit states she now needs a wheelchair or cane to move around.

The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages of more than $25,000.

There is absolutely nothing funny about disabling old ladies. That being said, we really hope this bingo brawl makes it into the movie.

DreamWorks 2.0 Announces First Deal — The Walter and Laurie Show

walterlaurie.jpgDreamWorks 2.0 announced its first deal in its new incarnation with India’s Reliance Big Entertainment money: the studio will work in a two-year deal with former production heads (and producers) Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald, Variety says.

Production pact is the company’s first since principals Stacey Snider and Steven Spielberg left Paramount Pictures in October and partnered with Reliance on an independent venture.

DreamWorks exited Par with a number of Parkes/MacDonald development projects in tow as part of its separation agreement with the Melrose studio. Among the Parkes/MacDonald films staying in the DreamWorks fold are “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” “The Damned,” “Motorcade,” “St. Agnes’ Stand” and “Dinner With Schmucks.”

“Dinner With Schmucks” had been developed as a Sacha Baron Cohen starring vehicle, but curiously he is no longer involved in the project.

Maybe he has something against Spielberg.

Sacha Baron Cohen’s Bruno Just Says No To Gays — Or Does He?

A disguised Sacha Baron Cohen marched with anti-gay activists to support the California Proposition 8, which would ban the recently enacted California allowance of gay and lesbian marriage, Associated Press reports.borat2.jpg

The British comedian is working on a film based on the fictional character Bruno, a gay Austrian fashion reporter who conducted gag interviews on HBO‘s “Da Ali G Show.”

Cohen, in disguise in a blond wig and preppy outfit, marched with demonstrators who support Proposition 8 while being trailed by cameras in a rally across in a rally across from Los Angeles City Hall.

When photographers and reporters realized who he was and tried to approach the star, members of his film crew tried to shield him, and he was eventually whisked away in a van.

Cohen, who has made a career out of filming unwitting victims of his fake identities, also played a journalist in the hit movie “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.”

Borat 2–Deal Not So Done, After All

    genImage.jpeg

Did Rupert Murdoch jump the gun when he announced Borat 2? Studio spokesman, Chris Petrikin, backpedaled saying

We’re eager to work with Sacha again, and we’ve had casual discussions about a sequel, which we’d love to do, but at this point, it remains too preliminary to discuss.

FOX has the rights to any sequal, but if they don’t have Sacha Baron Cohen, who cares? And since everyone on the planet has seen the first film, and knows not to sign the releases, who’s left for Cohen to annoy?

    LAT in 90 Seconds

baroncohen.jpgRock The (Academy) Vote: We knew low turnout among youth was a problem, but we had no idea young people’s apathy toward lame award shows with predictable winners was something in need of fixing. And we really couldn’t have predicted, as Scott Collins does, that somehow Sacha Baron Cohen is the man to draw the kinds of tattooed and pierced crowds that not even Jon Stewart or Chris Rock could summon.

justin.jpgIs Justin Gay? Maybe. But it doesn’t matter. Right?

jackcarl.jpgIn D Net: Apparently the LAT’s new commitment to latimes.com involves dumping 37 uninteresting photos of celebrities at sporting events into a Web-only photo gallery. Yawn.
