Jason Whitlock Believes Serena’s Crip Walk Celebration Was ‘Premeditated’

Fox Sports columnist Jason Whitlock is getting a lot of feedback this morning – both positive and negative – for a column entitled “Serena Deserves the Criticism.”

He’s not buying any of the excuses articulated by Williams and supporters regarding the Olympic gold medalist’s decision to celebrate at Wimbledon on Saturday with a dance popularized by Crip gang members. Whitlock thinks it was her crafty way of getting back at the All England Club:

A couple of years ago, the Queen visited Wimbledon for the first time in 33 years. Serena was the reigning Wimbledon champion. She practiced her curtsy in anticipation of playing in front of the Queen at Centre Court. Wimbledon placed Serena on Court 2 and let one of the fashionable white girls play Centre Court in front of the Queen…

I bet in a private moment Friday night or Saturday morning, Serena told her sister Venus, “I’m going to kick this $*%& ass and Crip Walk all over this crusty-ass place.”

Serena Williams Won’t Be Doing Manicures on Reality TV

We learn from our sister blog SportsNewser that the Lifetime network rejected a reality series about tennis star Serena Williams‘ double life as a nail salon pro. What?

One of the biggest names in sports has chosen a side career in a pink collar industry dominated by struggling immigrants. This is reality television GOLD. Serena gave Oprah Winfrey a pedicure, for crissakes. Nothing that mind boggling will ever happen on The Bachelorette.

Needless to say, we would’ve tuned in.

Surprisingly, Williams really is a professional manicurist. Last year she quietly enrolled in beauty school to become a certified nail technician, prompting sports fans the world over to scratch their heads. Since then she’s gained a new kind of fan for her “Glam Slam” nail polish collections, created in partnership with O.P.I.

Pete Wentz, Cheeseheads Hit the Road for ‘MB Tweet Race’

Tomorrow morning, four Mercedes-Benz vehicular teams, each featuring a pair of drivers and “celebrity coach,” will depart for Dallas from LA, Chicago, New York and Tampa. It’s all part of an ingenious Twitter-follow Super Bowl contest put on by the car manufacturer.

The LA team features singer Pete Wentz (@petewentz) and a pair of Green Bay Packer fans, Todd Sanders (@tsand) and John Pederson (@ijohnpederson) (pictured), who actually met through Twitter. At the end of the February 2nd-4th event, which also has a charity component, a follower of the winning team will be randomly selected for a Grand Prize along with 20 others:

Each Twitter race team will select two winners from those participants who have joined their team and the race director (@MbtweetraceHQ) will select twelve additional winners. Winners will be those participants that have tweeted the most plentiful, creative and timely tweets.

LAT Blog To Get 1 Million PVS, Does Our Work For Us

We have totally neglected our LAT in 90 feature this summer, but we thought we’d make amends by writing all kind of glowing things about the paper’s Olympics blog which is, truly, damn cool. (Love the on-the-ground touches and particularly like reading Bill Plaschke‘s take on the racial controversy before we’d even heard about the controversy itself.)

But — bully for us — the paper beat us to it!

In a press release extolling the paper’s Olympics coverage, the paper’s PR machine let us know it’s on track to get 1 million pvs by the games’ end.
