FishbowlLA at the ‘Oscars of Porn’

It’s awards season, and that means the media indulges in an orgy of award shows to congratulate themselves for their best work from the past year. L.A.’s multi-billion dollar porn industry is no exception, gathering every year in Las Vegas for the AVN awards, a presentation of the adult industry trade AVN (Adult Video News), and commonly known as the “Oscars of porn.”

This fishie happened to be in Vegas this year, so we decided to check it out. And oh, dear lord, what an experience.

It’s so scary in there we’re hiding in the lobby. Without the sweet cushioning of a press pass, we’re tossed in with the fans, an enthusiastic group of fellows all willing to elbow us in the face to get a photo of a porn star.

So far Slash has only been our only celebrity sighting, and his wife shoved her hand in our face when we tried to take a photo. Life lesson: We’d never make it as a papparazzi.

But we’re not giving up, dear readers. We’re gonna head back in and do our best to stalk James Deen.

Interviewing Slash Comes With a Strict Set of Rules

Slash is best known as the lead guitarist for Guns N’ Roses, but the Los Angeles-based musician, who left the band in 1996, isn’t too keen on discussing the old days. The New Zealand Herald recently revealed that prior to interviews, Slash gives journalists a list of rules about what topics are and aren’t permitted.

The Slash dictates are:

* Guns N’ Roses is a topic that Slash can briefly touch on.
* You can briefly discuss the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall Of Fame Induction – but only to the extent of the honour of that.
* You can’t talk about the ceremony itself and Axl not showing up and their performance etc.
* No questions about Axl whatsoever.
* No questions about a possible Guns N’ Roses reunion.
* No “on the road” stories or historic infamous type stories based around Guns N’ Roses.
* There has to be a focus on what he’s doing now and forthcoming events/plans.

It’s worth noting that Slash still plays Guns N’ Roses music at his concerts.

Marketing Expert: Charlie Sheen is Now #HalfWinning

Perhaps Charlie Sheen’s marketing appeal should now be measured by an east coast BBQ restaurant. Especially since his recent antics basically torched one-half of his audience base.

In a Daily Beast article, Maria Elena Fernandez gets the name of a marketing intelligence firm a tad wrong. It should read The Q Scores Company, not The Q Company. Former ABC-TV marketing VP Henry Schafer tells the reporter that although the Anger Management star’s Q score is up, that notoriety has come at a price:

“It looks like from everything that transpired, it was his female appeal that got hit the hardest,” Schafer said. “He’s a complete turn-off to women right now, whereas, back in the day, at the height of Two and a Half Men, he was way above average with female consumers. He’s lost most of his consumer strength with women of all ages and men 35 and older. But young males, 18 to 34, were relatively unaffected by all of his ranting and raving.”

LA Zoo Wrangles Slash, Betty White

Hollywood is full of odd couples. Still, TMZ camera-totters would be hard pressed to find a visual grab as striking as the side-by-side sight of Slash and Betty White.

Calm down; they’re only an item for LA Zoo promotional purposes. Out of the five new ads touting the attraction’s upcoming reptile and amphibian shrine The Lair opening in March, this is FishbowlLA’s favorite (great comeback, frogs!):

Guitarist Slash Gets Caught Up in Some Mashed Potatoes Journalism

While former Guns N’ Roses ax-man Slash managed to escape unscathed from his recent appearance at the taping of Comedy Central’s Charlie Sheen roast, it was apparently another matter today at a UK guitar shop.

According to a report in the Epsom Guardian, a British media personality known as Tubes (pictured) decided to go for some stupid stunt journalism. All, one assumes, for boastful future inclusion on his Saturday morning Sky One TV program Soccer AM and-or website:

Tubes smashed Slash [with mashed potatoes] during an interview ahead of the official opening of GuitarGuitar in Epsom, the largest guitar shop in the UK. The superstar did not see the joke and stormed off after having Tubes unceremoniously booted out of the building.

The Sham…Wow Guy and His Short (Shorter Than an Infomercial) Stint as a Filmmaker

Did you ever see The Underground Comedy Movie? No? Don’t worry, that is a shared experience through most of the known world. We do remember the late night ads with ‘super models’ on the toilet. And we also note that the film won the Best Celebrity Cameo at the B-Movie Awards for Joey Buttafuoco.

Well, filmmaker Vince Offer is best known for being the ShamWow Guy and more recently known for his beating up a prostitute in Miami was responsible for this cinematic wonder (ahem). Since his film had Bobby Lee and Slash in it, we figured Vince was a Comedy Story comic before he turned pitch/punchman.

Ant, of Last Comic Standing fame, was also in UCM and tells FBLA,”I don’t think he was ever a comedian. He sold these little devices called Chop-o-matic’s to finance the movie. He met me through friends and asked me to be in the movie. My scene was with a then unknown Michael Clarke Duncan (Oscar Nominated for The Green Mile). My last tonight show appearance MCD and I talked about that experience.

“Bashing a hooker while her teeth are attached to your face closer than Kirstie Ally and a Crispy Creme…not too bright….on so many levels.”

Yeah…Agreed.

Where’s My Logo?/ Slash as Klepto

HuffPost blogger Amanda Christine Miller (why do people use all three rather ordinary names?) has a day job as Vice President at Nike Communications, that should keep her a little busier. She’s got a “bimonthly” (but as one commenter points out, she means “biweekly) series annoying the famous, What’s My Logo?.

But, she’s not asking about logos, but rather about signature garments.

First she asked Christiane Amanpour where she got those groovy safari jackets, as if the CNN reporter was the first to wear them on camera.

Now, she’s asking Slash where the top hat came from, because Tom Petty, Janis Joplin and Stevie Nicks are unknown to her. Turns out he stole it, the scamp. That’s not all he stole, trust us.

Anna Nicole Smith Finally Laid to Rest in Bahamas

Anna Nicole Smith is finally getting her funeral today in the Bahamas, according to TMZ. Her mother, Virgie Arthur tried to stop the proceedings, but a Bahamanian judge threw out her petition, and the tricked-out white hearse decorated with pink ribbons and feathers rolled on. Smith, dressed in a tiara and pink gown, will be buried next to her son. Slash, of Guns ‘n Roses was sighted among the congregation at the church.
