Whitman Wins Minor-League Bobblehead Showdown

Okay, Meg, you can stop spamming our media with your commercials now. You’ve won. First the primary against super-wienie Steve Poizner and now a minor-league baseball game knickknack give away. That counts. Call off your constant commercials already!

AP reports:

SACRAMENTO, Calif.-Republican Meg Whitman can now claim another endorsement – fans of a Sacramento minor-league baseball team.

The Sacramento River Cats on Friday held their own kind of gubernatorial election – a bobblehead contest. The team gave away 2,500 bobbleheads in the likeness of Whitman and Democratic candidate Jerry Brown.

Team spokeswoman Rebecca Brutlag says the Whitman bobbleheads were snatched up first, making her the winner. The team did not count how many fewer Brown bobbleheads had been distributed when Whitman won.

And yes, in case you are curious, there are more Whitman dolls up for sale on Ebay (as of this posting nine) than Brown dolls (as of this posting six). Also, the Brown bobblehead is going for more money currently. That’s a switch.

Any reasonable person attending a billionaire’s celebration would just assume they would be able to revel in the free drinks and the above average cocktail wienies. Ahem. But alas, press at the Meg Whitman party last night tweeted there was no host bar. Oh the humanity!

Today is the day we get to stop hearing how horribly liberal GOP gubernatorial candidates Meg Whitman and Steve Poizner are. Yes, tomorrow one of them (most likely Whitman) will probably never be called that again.

But think of all the fun we’ve had this primary season! Billionaire Whitman has single-handedly created jobs in California by pouring a jaw dropping $69 million of her own money to bloody the McFry-ish Poizner and tout herself as being fiscally sound.

And then there’s the GOP Senate primary race to run against Barbara Boxer which has produced two words nationally recognized: Demon Sheep.

Poizner_Portrait.jpgIra Glass is a story teller but he’s also a journalist and Steve Poizner current State Insurance Commissioner now vying for the Republican nomination for governor warranted some investigating. Uber-rich Poizner was a volunteer teacher for a month seven years ago at a high school in San Jose. He wrote a book about it titled “Mount Pleasant” that is thought to largely be an exaggeration, at least when held up to scrutiny. Anyway, the This American Life piece about it is fascinating as always.

So, leave it to Chicago Public Radio to vet our California politicians. How embarrassing.

    Here’s the story.
