All four premiere screenings in Park City of Anita, the documentary about Hill’s landmark sexual harassment battle, are already sold out. The only downside of Lacher’s interview is that at the time of the discussion, Clarence Thomas‘ former accuser had not yet seen the film. Hill explained how Anita came about:

“I had been approached by two or three filmmakers about doing a documentary, and for two or three years I simply said no, and Freida Mock had come back a couple of times. I wanted to work to make sure that if the story was told that at least I had some positive input. So after talking with Freida, I just felt that she was the right person to tell the story. She persuaded me in this very calm, clear way that I and the story would be in good hands. And that’s all she promised me.”

Negron fills in the many blanks contained in the rash of sensational media coverage more concerned about leveraging the SEO potential of a Katy Perry ex-boyfriend reference than discovering the true identity of Sons of Anarchy actor Johnny Lewis’ alleged victim. During his early years as an actor in LA, Negron rented every room in Davis’ “writer’s villa” abode in Los Feliz. It was a place that welcomed numerous other performers such as Val Kilmer, Parker Posey and Thomas Jane.

Negron notes that Davis and her daughter were both writers. Margaret penned “biographies of prominent Los Angeles figures and families,” with Negron and co. attending related book launch events. Mom meanwhile was working on an equally ambitious portrait:

Cathy, always the writer and reader, began writing her own historical biography on the life of Phoebe Apperson Hearst, mother of William Randolph Hearst. She was working on the book in her room when she was murdered.

At the end of a new interview with TheFix.com executive editor Anna David conducted before this week’s announcement that Hung has been canceled by HBO, Jane sought to debunk that messy LA Times media trail:

“In the interviews that I did, I never said I was a prostitute. I was talking about my [early] time in Hollywood: I said that I’d had a sexually adventurous time and I was trying to relate that to how I play a prostitute on TV—trying to relate my experience to my character’s experience—and well, people heard what they wanted to hear. Things fly around.”

“You know, when I was a kid out here in LA, I was homeless, I didn’t have any money and I was living in my car. I was 18. I wasn’t averse to going down to Santa Monica Boulevard and letting a guy buy me a sandwich. Know what I mean?”

The operative words here are, “Know what I mean?” Although the actor went on to most definitely confirm some early same-sex experimentation, he at no point spelled out that his struggles involved the actual exchange of cash dollars and-or standing on a Santa Monica Blvd. corner. But that didn’t stop US magazine from headlining Jane as a “hooker,” a direction echoed by other outlets such as New York magazine, MSNBC, Zap2It and ABC News. Until Jane or the writer expounds upon this aspect of the story, it’s nothing more than careless conjecturing; not the biggest journalistic error in the world, but still a symptom of how showbiz news is leapfrogged along.
