Zach Galifianakis Taps Another Deadpan Silver Lining

In the first episode of Zach Galifianakis‘ “Oscar Buzz” edition of Between Two Ferns, it was Jennifer Lawrence who stole the show. She zinged the host with a great Hunger Games gag and to his “that’s off-putting” retort, suggested that he in fact is the one who should be “off pudding.”

Now it’s the turn of her Silver Linings Playbook co-star Bradley Cooper. He’s the final guest for Galifianakis’ second set of 2012 Oscar nominee sit-downs, foolishly agreeing to read an acceptance speech drafted by the talk show host.

The Ridiculously Rapid Rise of Angels Weekly Host Alex Curry

There are many memorable tidbits in the easyreadernews.com profile of Alex Curry, the 24-year-old Manhattan Beach resident who debuted this month as host of the Friday Fox Sports West show Angels Weekly. But we were particularly struck by the following details:

Her manager, Peter Gallagher – who usually only works with actors, such as Brad Pitt and Zach Galifianakis – recognized unusual qualities in Curry when he took her on as client. “She is warm, she is bubbly, she is just herself – and it comes across on camera, her personality,” Gallagher said…

Gallagher believes this is just the beginning of a career that has few limits. Hers, he said, is an utterly natural star quality, and unlike so many people attracted to show business, her drive does not emanate from a lack of esteem or need for attention – she genuinely just loves to get to know people and tell their stories.

Funny or Die Launches iPad Magazine

Just in time for the latest, greatest version of Apple’s tablet, the folks at Funny or Die have unveiled their newest comedy empire component: an iPad magazine called The Occasional.

Although the name sounds like a calorie-rich treat The Jersey Shore’s The Situation might occasionally allow himself on his abs workouts off-day, it is of course a reference to the fact that this digital publication comes out sporadically (every other month). That, and the fact that it sounds better than The Sporadic. Among the contents of issue #001 are a special “unreleased” episode of Between the Ferns for which host Zach Galifianakis chats with Ed Helms, a profile of Billy Eichner and a kids’ audio book featuring sound effects by Marc Maron.

Republican Strategist: It Was Definitely Marijuana

Tonight’s edition of Real Time with Bill Maher should be very interesting. That’s because after host Bill Maher suggested during a Monday interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer that the joint lit up on air last week by guest Zach Galifianakis was in fact not marijuana but rather “cloves or something,” fellow October 29th guest Margaret Hoover has set the record straighter.

On last night’s edition of The O’Reilly Factor, she insisted that the pot smoked by the bearded funnyman was real.

Chong’s Cause Goes Up in Smoke

Stoners across the state are crying in their Fruit Loops this morning, trying to figure out how many joints they will have to smoke on the QT before another shot at California legalization in 2012. Still, the residual media buzz from Proposition 19 remains strong, thanks in large part to the celebrities involved. In no particular order:

1) On Monday, November 1st, comedian Tommy Chong (pictured) recorded a MySpace message in favor of Prop 19. “Get it legal, before you wind up in jail, like I did,” he urged. Unfortunately, in this video at least, Chong was perhaps not the optimum physical-specimen-advertisement for smoking lots of weed, legal or otherwise.

Meet the Boys of Badass Digest

When the rambunctious and always entertaining film critic Devin Faraci announced recently that he was leaving CHUD.com for a new venture, much speculation ensued. This week, we learned the name of the next home of this Zach Galifianakis dead ringer: Badass Digest, a content website launched in partnership with Austin’s Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas.

Joining Faraci at Badass are some familiar names: Hollywood-Elsewhere.com contributor Moisés Chiullan; former Cinevegas artistic director Roger Erik Tinch; and Alamo Drafthouse principals Tim League and Henri Mazza.
