Tom Cruise Wows His Indian Chauffeur

There’s a torrent of fawning media coverage coming out of Bollywood today about Tom Cruise‘s final-leg stopover in Mumbai. The Deccan Chronicle for example suggests that the actor mesmerized fans after a three-hour wait.

However, it is the Times of India that wins the award for blanket TC coverage. They’ve shared both a brief Q&A and a longer feature endorsement, as articulated through the eyes of a humble hired servant:

The Hollywood star’s charm floored his chauffeur as well. Kailash, an employee of the agency recruited to drive the actor around the city, would be greeted by Cruise every time he boarded the car with a warm “Namaste Kailash. How are you?”

Ankur Vaid, the head of the company that provided the conveyance, revealed, “Our driver was attending to Tom round the clock. He complimented us on our quality of driving… Vaid also remembered how Tom would keep asking [Ghost Protocol co-star] Anil Kapoor in the car about ways to greet people in Hindi… “He wanted to try out the food but couldn’t because of security reasons.”

Portions of the December 21 Paramount Pictures blockbuster sequel were filmed in Mumbai and Bangalore. Halfway around the world from Oprah’s couch, Cruise is still a mega-star.
