Top Design: FBLA Goes to the Party

FBLA is wildly excited about Bravo’s Top Design series, especially as architect Andrea Keller is a contestant. We know her from our other life, and thus are completely biased and hope she wins. In the weeks ahead, she’s going to share some tiny, insignificant behind-the-scenes details with FBLA
Keller and her architect husband, John Berry, threw a viewing party last night. Among the crowd cheering for Andrea were author/film editor Paul Seydor, fellow contestant Heather Ashton, FOX money guy turned education guru Gene Straub, L.A. Phil fundraiser Janneke Straub and <a href="http://blakkbox.buzznet.com/user/profile/, and songstress Leslie Spencer Smith.
Keller’s a member of the blakkbox group who were out in full force (and thought that Keller being teamed with Ryan “My Own Worst Enemy” Humphrey was pretty funny), as well as architect Jeffrey Allsbrook and energy visionary Dan Emmett. FBLA felt very popular–people kept shouting “She’s a blogger–don’t say anything!”

The crowd ate tamales and drank mojitos while the designers painted and pushed furniture around. FBLA always Tivo’s through this part, anyway. Loved the Robert Kuo pepper.

Ashton pointed out that the call on judgment day was 6 am, and by the time the scene was shot at 4:30am, everyone was exhausted. Keller told everyone within earshot that Ralphie-look alike Michael Erik, and Goil are super-nice, amazing people, the most wonderful people in the universe. One of the winning designers, who dreamed up the litter box, Elizabeth Moore, had been a stylist for Prince. Someone, can’t recall who exactly, told us that if we thought Kelly Wearstler’s tutu and leggings get-up was odd, keep watching. One of Keller’s blakkbox skaterdude pals (who looked like a 10 year-old with yakuza tats) wanted to know if guest judge Alexis Arquette was a boy or a girl or both.
FBLA wants the recipe for those mojitos.
Back in the blogosphere, Blogging Top Design and Project Top Design are must reads. TWOP forums are consumed by Todd Oldham’s voice-overs. The Dallas Morning News blog is pretty funny, but the LA Times’ take is blah. Apartment Therapy readers are hard to please but Design Sponge will keep watching. As will FBLA.
