11/11/11 is Nigel Tufnel Day!

Spinal Tap fans the world over have declared November 11th, 2011 “Nigel Tufnel day,” in honor of the man who dared to turn his amps up to 11.

Nigel Tufnel, for those of you poor souls who haven’t seen the Rob Reiner mockumentary, was the lead guitarist in the fictional metal band Spinal Tap, played by a young and hairy Christopher Guest. He may not have been the greatest guitarist the world had ever seen, but by golly, he was one of the loudest.

The grassroots effort to honor Tufnel today seems to have originated on Facebook, or maybe Twitter, or maybe over at The Nigel Tufnel Day Appreciation Society and Quilting Bee website. Who knows.

However it happened, Nigel Tufnel day coincides nicely with Veterans Day, a national celebration in honor of real-life heroes who also weren’t afraid to turn it up to 11.
